Worth $800k-1.4m in his move to Al Shabab?

How does it compare with other A-League transfers? A fair whack bigger than most (Rukavytsya at a much younger age went for $1.2m, but others?). I rate Griffiths as a player (took balls for me to say that...), but if he is worth that much at 29/30, you have to wonder what some of the other players in the league could be worth.

Quality player, but not worth this much. What impact could moves like this have on the A-League? Is it just a ground for players to earn a bit until they are picked up elsewhere? Or is this just the nature of football? And is the fee just high because it is Gold Coast, or could it have happened to another club? Shows some of the frustrations with the salary cap, Clive can't exactly go out and buy an $800k player and 'allegedly' keep him under the cap, a player of that value would likely expect to big of a salary.

Imagine how much we could have got for Smeltz...

Surely this will make the GCU defence much weaker.

Griff was playing more a midfield role, and while they have van den Brink in defence they can probably play with one defender and no keeper, that man is quality... But also beside the point. Agreed, there is no other player as good as Griffiths that could probably be signed for that value (Milligan maybe?). Although Miron seems to think that Rees could fill his role if worse came to worst...

Sort of surprised that this sort of money is being discussed, when a couple of weeks ago 350k was being talked about in a Smeltz-->Norwich City.
