Bring on a Christchurch team to really give you lot something to moan about.

Man, all of the above was a tough and dull read.

It is one thing to not have this website expand to do for Auckland FC what it does for the Nix, it is another thing entirely to pretend and to say that you won't be any more interested in Auckland FC than you are about Macarthur. Get a grip

Edit: I guess this was directed at Ballane specifically, hope nobody else gets offended
I was just watching that ep of Bluey (mum of a toddler here lol) where they're watching State of Origin, where everyone is barracking for QLD except for the neighbour's mum who supports NSW. And the rivalry is real and intense and the kids' loyalties are torn. And then at the end everyone gets together to support the Australian team (except for the local Kiwis, lol again).

I assume that's what it'll be like with the Nix, Foley's Folly, and the All Whites.

Came to this thread for the Bluey chat, stayed for the tea.

I`ve recently been disturbed to find out there's a whole subculture of adult fans of Bluey. I can only hope they're not as bad as the My Little Pony weirdos.

It's certainly an interesting read and the insult on Ballane was really sharkty.

But on topic, the AucksFC is great but fudge I hope we win the league this season so they can't come in and beat us to silverware.

Then if Barba goes north he can at least snag some more of Foley's money as a current champ!

This thread has attracted more heat than any other I can remember (except whichever one it was that drove Showtime Nixie away), and it seems opinions can be boiled down to two camps:

1) I am so antipathetic to Auckland that Foley FC will be our greatest RRRIVAL.
2) I am so antipathetic to Auckland that I just don't care at all about Foley FC

Or
3) I just love Football and happy to support a NZ team over Aussies so will support both Auckland and the Nix and anyone who has a problem with that can jump in the deep end of Lake Taupo with an anvil.

How can anyone be throwing shade on Auckland or Wellington at this point. We have all supported Wellington for a decade plus, how can you shark on them right now. We have to wait till one of them does something sharkty before we can figure this out. The time for fighting is not now, maybe on facebook but not here. Having two teams is the best outcome ever.

Not sure why people are so concerned about who and how other people will support one or both teams.
If people want to support both, that's fine by me. If people want to shift from Wellington to Auckland because that's their home is then that's fine too.
But for me, it's Phoenix vs the rest.
(and Auckland aren't getting their own sub-forum).

It has been a long time since I bothered to watch every game of the round.  Nowadays I just watch the two Nix games.

I'll probably tune into some Aucks games, and the only time I will want them to be losing is if they are ahead of us on the ladder.

Not staying up to watch them play in Perth though.

I've noticed a couple arguments about defining the exact nature of the derby in the Auckland FB group too.

It's a non-issue to me. This is football we're talking about! The drama and rivalry will come when it comes. Nothing to worry about.

I will say, I'll be very interested in hearing why the Kiwis who sign for Auckland chose them over Wellington. The bigger names will obviously be offered big money, but there are always risks in joining a brand-new setup instead of an established one that's coming off what looks like their best season ever.

Something that seems to have been missed by so many in both sides of this arguement here is that fact that many Nix fans are neither from AKL or WLG.

I'm from Newcastle NZ which is in neither region so will support both teams (leaning towards the Nix given my 17 year love in), until my own region gets an A League side.

In our game's kiwi national league/NZFC I would only ever support my local team, I couldn't give a rats arse about Napier City Rovers, Gisborne City, Woolston, Auckland City FC or Team Wellington for instance.

Other codes have had local sides from day one, so if your from Otago you'd support Otago in Cricket or the Highlanders in rugby, We've never had that in pro football.

It's not a side thing (although some people refuse to believe there are any opinions other than their own), it started off with some people suggesting that this site be a forum for both Wellington and Auckland, and then that evolved into a suggestion that there is a sub forum for Auckland.

Yes, and the point is there seem to be a bunch more than two valid sides or fan identities possible and evolving.

For me it is Nix first. Strangely enough on a Phoenix forum.

I will frequent both forums as a fan of NZ.

I have travelled numerous times to see the NIX live and almost never miss a game whether living he or abroad. I'm more than happy to have an Auckland page add on here, do debate them just like we do every other team... and I will buy a season pass for the Auckland team (I live in Hammy).

Why - as much to support football in NZ as anything, and to also give my kids more opportunities to watch games live and deepen their love and connection to the sport.

The last 200 posts have been so full of crap its crazy.

Up the Nix, Up Auckland and Cmon NZ Footy.

I should apologise for getting a bit snarky at Ryan, who I misinterpreted, though you could have a little sympathy for me because his reply to a post of mine was basically in total agreement but finished in a way that seemed like he was disagreeing with me.

I don't care what you think about the Auckland team, the fact is you are going to have more thoughts about them than the vast majority of other A-League sides, if not all.

The NZ derbies are going to be so good. I don't live in either Wellington or Auckland but I'll be at all of them, and supporting the Nix. Two games every year in NZ that are going to have great crowds and great atmospheres, almost guaranteed. Can't wait.

There’s a question for McFlynn- how many games are they taking to the Waikato? One, or actually two, of my favourite away game memories.

As a die hard Auckland-based Nix fan, I would likely get a season ticket for the Black Knights. If I moved to any Australian city with an A-League team I would probably do the same, how cool to watch A-League every other week!

I hope Auckland do well for the sake of football in NZ. I also hope they lose embarrassingly to the Nix every single time and never finish above us on the table.

I live in Auckland but too am Phoenix till I die. I will also be purchasing a season pass as someone mentioned I get to watch a league football regularly in my back yard.

I hope next season, we finish 1st and Auckland 2nd, 2-0 them in the season and then have a home final in Wellington which I come to and we beat them.

I really hope, that foley is so rich, he makes ticket prices really cheap so it becomes something anyone can go to. As soon as you lift ticket prices you lose most of the cultral community in Auckland.
Put tickets on the south stand for $10 and keep all tickets in the ground $20 or less and just the best seats in the middle can be a little bit higher. That way mt smart could be getting 20k nearing capacity every game.
Make season tickets $150 tops and get a core fan base.

There’s certainly some chatter building within the community, people know this thing is happening.
This is a good move for NZ football and while it may slightly affect the Phoenix it grows the game and Domey will most likely get his sell out in the regular season that “funds the club for a year”

Love the perspectives. As a Auckland-based Nix diehard but first and foremost a New Zealand football proponent, I'm just stoked at the prospect that I'll have two teams to root for against the Aussies. Everything benefits NZ in a massive way. Wouldn't be able to separate the two if they played, but that's part of the fun

A few weeks back they said Auckland planned to announce the team name, plus reveal their strip around the time Nix play Sydney at Eden Park (March 16th). And that they may even have up to 15 players signed by that time.

Either way I think we can expect some news next week, when will be a lot of football media focus in the 09.

Quite possibly repeating what others have already posted here but according to today's Herald:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/auckland-a-leagues-franchise-team-name-set-to-be-announced/BQLA6RCBFJFONPVPTRS4YETT4A/

The Black Knights is the front-runner for the name of the club, who are joining the A-League Men competition from next season.

On Thursday March 14, they’ll also reveal their club colours and branding.

The announcement comes as the Herald understands the club are facing challenges finding a training base in Auckland due to scheduling conflicts with the New Zealand Warriors at Go Media Mt Smart Stadium, meaning owner Bill Foley’s team is exploring alternative stadium options.

Following next week’s announcement, the Herald understands Kiwi footballers Cameron Howieson (Auckland City FC) Francis De Vries (Eastern Suburbs AFC), Luis Toomey (Eastern Suburbs AFC), Michael Woud (Ventforet Kofu FC), Jesse Randell (Charleston Battery) and Callan Elliott (Motherwell FC) are set to sign with the Auckland side.

Pretty good base for a team. Good mix of current internationals, domestic performers and young guns. Also likely to be some big marquees joining - the likes of Maclaren, Brimmer, Rojas etc. have all been mooted. Will be interesting to see how many Aussies they pick up and what imports they go for.

Wellington based Phoenix till I die fan

At first, I used to take the piss out of Auckland's two failed attempts in the past.
Now, I am completely behind their 3rd effort and I really hope it works for them. I am looking forward to the "Derby" games where I will support the Nix and give Auckland some banter.

This has to be good for New Zealand football in general. Sure, I'll keep an eye on their results and hope they beat a few Australian teams, but at the end of the day, I am 100% behind the Nix. If I ever move either to Auckland or Australia, I will still be  Nix fan. Although I might attend games from the nearest team where ever I am.

Nowhere near as bad as people make out tbh. Would have preferred something original too, but ah well. Only thing that scares me is they might neglect a blue colour scheme which would be a major disappointment.

However - Bournemouth, red and black, Lorient, orange and black, so Auckland.... blue and black? Would love a bit of Nerazzurri
