I still think Clive is a loser but Gold Coast fans hardly played their part.

The Gold Coast fans play their part.  It's the Gold Coast public who don't.  The fans are the ones that are there despite Clive.

5000 is just such a pitiful cap. You can get atleast 8000 to a Tasman Makos game in Nelson. Robina is a wee while away if you're living in the city but 5000 is way below par, get rid of them.

To be fair, the public have been alienated. As long as Clive keeps antics like this up,the fans and public will stay away. Its amazing that he doesnt realise that putting things like the cap etc in place,is actually the reason he has to pay a stadium fee for low numbers. If he wasnt doing sh*te like that, perhaps crowd numbers would grow to an acceptable level.

Did anyone else notice how the fans were kept in blocks in Gold Coasts game? Blocks with big empty gaps in between

This. There's some good people in the GCUSC, I know their secretary and he's a top bloke. The problem is the lack of general public at matches and that's GCU's fault, not that of their supporters.

Remember when All Whites v. Vanuatu was held in Wellington, and NZF did absolutely no marketing and relied on worth of mouth within Yellow Fever to promote it? Remember how small (albeit awesome) the crowd was? That's pretty much what's going on there. GCU is doing next to nothing to market the game or involve the community. From what I've been told, most of the region aren't even aware GCU exists.

I'd love to see GCU stay in the competition. The rivalry we have with them is good for the league and especially good for the Phoenix given our lack of a regional rival. If they weren't managed so poorly, we wouldn't have this conversation IMHO. But I don't have high hopes for their chances to recover. Even if GCU pulls finger, or if the FFA takes over, I don't see them being too competitive for the general public's dollar given the dominance of the Titans, or the excellent work being done by the Suns. Might be too late to repair the damage done.

Some change in policy - they won't turn anyone away - ie they will open more bays if more than 5000 turn up to Skilled Park.

Headline is a little misleading - that was the policy for the Victory match as well, so there's no "change" per se. I'm guessing this is just the result of GCU's infamously pathetic communication. That, or Palmer the Hutt was too distracted by an ice cream van to announce the policy.

I don't agree with the cap, but tell me Tegal, would you be prepared to fork out $60000 each week ABOVE what you were paying for the cap?

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

um. so you dont agree with it but ask me a pressing question like that. id be looking at the long term rather than saving the money in the short term. id look after my supporters. if i were to cap the crowd i give those season holders freebies to ease their frustration..encourage them to bring people along. the cost of this would be offset by the stadium saving and encourage more people along so hopefully we can open the stadium again. you cant question that clives actions have put off a lot of the public and supporters.
