Does anyone know why Andrew Dewhurst was commentating on the Melbourne Love vs Brisband game on Sunday night?
I would have thought Fox would drag a bum off the street before choosing him??

There's a long tradition of Australian businesses employing New Zealanders.

You are quite right, the original comment was plain stupid.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Richard Wilkins!

If you're referring to the first reply on the thread it was already removed so I never read it.

Once I learned it was Dewhurst of Radiosport fame I have to say I was a little surprised. I presumed Sky & Fox are the same biz & if any NZ commentary could slip across to an Australian based match it would be one of Sky's boys.

Can't understand the hate towards Dewhurst.  He's fine (as long as he keeps the word count down).

Probably only behind Hill, really, imho.

Maybe farken Fox was short of commentators becuase half of them would be heading to Cairo for the Aussie vs Egypt game this week?

I don't mind Dewhurst.  Think it's actually a good idea to have a kiwi and an Aussie calling the games.  Shows more unity.

Just watch on mute if you don't like it.

Is what I do. Works a treat.

I think that maybe Sky / Fox decided that Dewhurst & deJong were THE most boring commentators about, so tried to get them in with the ockers to learn how to call a game and not have it sound like a sermon at a funeral.

I don't mind Dewhurst either. Some of the criticism of him is plain ridiculous, like someone complaining they didn't like him because he was once a bit over-competitive in a friendly kick around they were watching. Cripes, fetch the cat 'o' ninetails for the filthy swine.

You're always going to get a better commentary from the radio boys but since I can never get the telecast and the online radio feed in sync I listen to Dewhurst. He does the job fine by me.
