FFA Governance
World Game Opinion piece My opinion
What happens to the game at grassroots if the incumbent FFA board is booted out?The Federations continue doing what they have been doing for many many years.
Would an independent A-League ditch the Fox deal?
There are strong rumours that if the A-League gets its way and wins a larger representation at congress level, one of the first things it would do is cancel its agreement with its broadcasting partner that expires in 2023. Fox have been the lifeblood of the game since day one and have done a fantastic job in promoting the league.
The broadcaster pays $57m a year for the privilege. But the clubs believe their product is worth much more and want a larger part of the cake.
The A-League clubs would negotiate the best deal with which ever broadcaster came to the table. If their is an out clause in the contract Mr Lowy put it in there for a reason. $57 million divided by 10 less an FFA management fee per A-league club. I believe the current level of retention of TV money is more than a fair fee.
If Fox are given the flick where will the money come from?
It is unclear how much of the Fox money have FFA passed on to the clubs but whatever it is the clubs are unhappy. But if the Fox deal is scuppered it remains to be seen who will come up with the cash to keep the league going.
No way the baby will be thrown out in the bath water. No Owner would can FOX with out a more valuable replacement
Would the club owners create an independent and self-funded 'super league'?
To long a ramble to copy n paste
Is the writer privy to financial details of club owner who could or would do this. I think may be outside FIFA Laws
And if it could work England would have done it years ago. But they need the TV money even with Billionaire owners most of who don't want to only be rich.
I'm still a little bit uneasy about the professional game having too much power/control over the game. I'm all for giving them a fair deal with the broadcasting share and autonomy on how they run their leagues as long as there are some controls in there that don't allow them to interfere in national team availability etc - but I think FIFA might do a bit of that already. But the younger levels probably need that protection too, we need the best players playing international football at all age groups to my mind.

Sage calls for rebel states to be brave and vote for change
"My message to the four federations is 'don't be bullied or threatened'," Sage said from the Korea Republic, where he is on business.
"Just think of the bigger picture. Look at the consequences if the new FIFA-approved congress model does not get through."

What a load of bollocks....
Expect either the league or FFA logo to change in a year if the league becomes independent. Way to ruin things FFA, idiots.
FFA hold meeting with Football federation Victoria
The purpose of the meeting was to consider and vote on a special resolution to amend the FFA Constitution to extend the deadline for board nominations for this year.
The resolution was supported by the FFA Directors.
The Members passed the special resolution and as a result the deadline for receipt of nominations for directors to election to the FFA Board at the 2018 AGM is 25 October 2018.
Punters think Stevie Lowy wants to be in office after the seven year deadline to hold all files relating to the failed World Cup Bid.
So he can shred them before any checking of payments can be done.
“When [former FFA chairman] Frank Lowy came in there was a clause in the constitution where to become a director of FFA, a person needed to be two years divorced from any role in football, because we wanted independent people,” Walker said. “In October 2017, that was changed to 12 months and the now the CRWG want it taken away altogether.”
“We just didn’t want to change the congress membership until after the new A-League model was agreed on,” he said. “We thought it was better to have the A-League model up and running before that. We were not against it, just the timing of it."

"In exchange, they have offered to "immediately work with members and FIFA and the AFC on a model that retains the core elements of the CRWG model, complies with FIFA statutes and reflects the appropriate Congress balance for football in Australia."

A RESOLUTION to football’s two-year civil war could be in sight, after days of negotiations brought an 11th-hour breakthrough in the battle for political control.Less than 72 hours before a pivotal emergency general meeting to determine the power structure at the head of the game, agreement appears to have been struck among all those who will vote on a set of reforms backed by FIFA but opposed by the board of Football Federation Australia.
News Corp Australia understands that all 10 members of FFA – the nine states and federations, plus the A-League clubs combined – have signed a new notice that was submitted to FFA late on Friday, calling an earlier EGM on Tuesday.The EGM will consider a set of reforms put together with FIFA’s imprimatur and which share power more widely around the game.
The new notice includes amendments reached after intensive talks between the key stakeholders in the last few days, most notably adding all the states to the working group that will design a new model for the A-League once the reforms are passed.
It had been feared that three or four of the states would vote down the reforms, bringing into sharp relief the prospect of FIFA losing patience and possibly suspending Australia from world football on the eve of the Socceroos’ Asian Cup defence.
But the fact that all the voting members have signed the new notice has brought fresh optimism that the reform package will be passed on Tuesday, despite FFA’s board issuing a detailed argument against it.
Under the reforms, the A-League clubs and the players’ association will get more votes, as will representatives of the women’s game. A variety of advisory committees would also be established, to influence the future direction of the game, as well as a working group to restructure the A-League and W-League.
FFA chairman Steven Lowy has said he will stand down if the changes are passed, claiming they will give the professional game too much power at the expense of the grassroots
But the new note of unity among the states and clubs holds open the possibility of an end to a saga that has dominated headlines at the expense of the A-League.

Of course, aware that the nine state-based member federations have all signed-on to slightly amended recommendations for the FFA Congress on Tuesday, the Lowy Dynasty will fight back - so it's no surprise that Ray Gatt reports there has been more lobbying by the FFA Chairman, Steven Lowy, over the weekend. Lowy is trying to swing the swing voters of Northern NSW, Tasmania, ACT and the NT yet again.
It's a tipping point time for football. The 'swing voters' came to agreement on terms - with FIFA no less as the broker - almost 14 months ago, but later renegued thanks to intervention from the FFA Chairman, as we have previously reported. Will the agreement stick this time?
Michael Lynch writes that the apparent agreement leaves the FFA Chairman (and Board) "isolated". Lynch quotes former Board member and Socceroo, Jack Reilly, as saying it's time to bring "accountability" back into the game - something #NewFIFANow has been advocating for in respect of football administration around the world for almost four years.
What has been agreed?
The joint statement from the A-League clubs, the member federations and the PFA states that the changes will mean:
- A broader representation of stakeholders within the FFA congress;
- Full participation of women at all levels of soccer governance, including the establishment of a Women’s Football Council, for the first time;
- Formation of various standing committees that seek to improve stakeholder engagement, corporate knowledge and strengthen governance;
- Improved financial reporting in accordance with international financial reporting standards;
- Establishment of a defined and transparent pathway for new FFA congress members,
- including for appropriately instituted bodies representing key stakeholders of the game;
- A defined, transparent and collaborative whole-of-game pathway for professional soccer including an alternative A-League governance model; and
- Further alignment of the FFA constitution with FIFA and AFC statutes.

Does this mean or does it not that they're going to stop trying to kick the Nix out, so we might be able to hire better players / invest in infrastructure / get a coach who's not desperate for a gig, any gig?
So all reforms passed, at last. New Congress will convene next month and elect a bunch of new directors. A-L working group will produce new model by March, to come in next season. Steven Lowy expected to stand down as FFA chair next month.
Working Group towards new A-League model will feature presidents of 9 member feds, 5 A-League club chairs, 2 members of the PFA executive, 2 members of the Women’s Football Council, 2 FFA directors, members of the FFA management as required and an independent, non-voting chair.
I hope NZF are paying attention to all this, I know they haven't ever really focused on the Nix, but now would be a bad time to take their hands off the wheel.
Also delay in expansion. Some saying about having an expansion and others saying just delay in announcing so new board will actually be picking the expansion teams

Only time will tell. But it gives us hope that the Nix is here to stay.

The other A League club owners? Why would they do that?
Morrison actually seems to have a genuinely good relationship with the other owners. I think they are mostly happy to have a club across the ditch, that poses no risk to their existing fan bases.
It's the new expansion clubs they are wary of, or just plainly don't want.
By all accounts, the other club owners like the NIX and have lobbied for them in the past. We should be feeling a lot more confident as a franchise as a result - that being said, we still need to prove our worth by putting up a good season this year and next.
