Games next Season??

This has probably been mentioned but...
With GCU and Nrth Queensland in next season, how many games are we going to play?? (excluding play-offs)
27? or 18?

i thought perhaps 18 is too small and the season after would adjust to 22 games? But I may be wrong.

Sorry If this has been mentioned but no matter how hard I searched, I couldn't find anything on it

If we haven't got too many Sunday games, I might get finally round to buying that season ticket next season

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

18 is far too short, it's too short at 21 and ideally we'd have 30 + a season, so I'm pretty certain it will be 27 rounds + up to  4 matches in the finals series
You know we belong together...

The FFA are looking into extending the season at either end to accommodate the new fixtures and also considering Midweek fixtures to avoid issues with stadium double booking during the NRL/AFL seasons

so 27 for season 5 and 33 for season 6 if we expand to 12 teams???
or do they go back down to a similar size as this season with 22?

Dont think they will expand to 12 teams for another 2 -3 years..

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

o ok i read somewhere that they were looking to add another two sides but I hope they don't do it straight away. 27 games would definitely make the season better. Season pass for me if it dosn't get too pricey

if they're worrying about crowd numbers now, I would've thought midweek fixtures would be the last thing they'd consider.

I disagree. If they actually use their head, the occasional midweek clash could be great.
Use their head I mean:
- don't put the games too late - 6 kickoff??
- put the games in the school holidays to allow more kids the option to go out.

The midweek Preseason game was a totally great environment and I think we got 10 000 + ?

If you had the midweek games in the summer months they might work, wouldn't if you had them early in the season

school holifays happen ebvery few months though. A 2 round home and away would be more fair than playing 2 away and 2 home against some clubs as it is currently. Maybe to prop a few games have an FA Cup style competition every few weeks? Could includle some NZFC and Aucstralian State teams

Might have to revise that to "If they start playing midweek games, there's no way I'll finally get round to buying that season ticket"

Anyone know approx when the draw will be released?

I heard somewhere that GCU are hosting the roar first up but find it hard to believe with no draw as evidence

Good idea but what are the chances of including NZFC teams? Asia doesn't even want our only pro team to play in Oz.

Funnily enough last night's Adelaide vs Melbourne fixture drew 27k+, one of the largest crowds of the season. I suppose more than a few are still on holidays at the moment though.

Watabout a straight league, with none of this mickey mosue playoff business. Top at the end wins.

And then a knockout cup with the first rounds being played amongst NZFC and state league teams with A league coming in later on.

Ie. League and Cup as in England and many countries in Europe, Spain, Italy, Germany etc

No chance... the Australian public love a Grand Final and the FFA and TV networks won't change that.

Problem is,especialy with more teams...unlike the premier league in england and other leagues of the like, there isnt really much to play for once you are out of the title race at a certain point of the season. People will lose interest, less fans to games...football loses out to other codes.

The leagues that just have a straight win with no playoffs...il take england example again...they have the champs league qualification spots, then uefa cup...then after that even midtable can get dragged into a relegation battle.

We have none of that, except for the ACL..which is only 2 spots as far as i understand

I still say, there's no chance of including NZFC teams anyway.. would Canterbury or Otago Utd have anything of gain from playing a state league team way over Oz west coast? Even if invited only 3 of the NZFC clubs could probably afford it. Especially seeing as they're not likely to see any prize money.

Maybe they could run a cup that runs along side the HAL and include the top few qualifyers from each state..

Playoffs are very Soccer rather than football imo

a cup would be great but won't really work.
A midweek game that has been thought about can always pull a crowd. The Melbourne adelaide game showed that.

The Adelaide/Melbourne game was always going to draw a crowd. Arguably Melbourne's biggest rival (next to Syd obviously) and fighting for the top spot.

And Playoffs are very Australian/NZ.

I think the playoffs are great. Adds to the season.

With an ACL slot up for the winner of the regular games there is plenty to play for, and then we have a battle amongst the top 4 teams, which makes fourth worth going for, as we are seeing right now

Season would have been over for quite a few already without playoffs.

I think that as we've seen this season, if the mid-week games are over the middle of summer the crowds will come. It could affect energy levels, but as Adelaide have shown this season that playing lots of football is actually better for the team, and the league if all the clubs are doing it.

So I guess with 5 games per round there will be 1 Friday night game, 2 Saturday and 2 Sunday.  Hopefully that will open up opportunities for us not to be having 5pm or 7pm Sunday games
