About time the team and city that actively wants a team is getting looked at rather than the suburb/area that the FFA thinks wants one.

I entirely support Canberra for the A-League. We can have a Capital Cities Derby.

My guess is they will delay, delay, delay trying to stitch up a west sydney outfit and then give the canbera team the green light 2 months out.

If GCU can't carry on, I would hope Canberra gets the spot. Unlike West Sydney, there does seem to be a demand for a team from the public. Feels kinda like us, when the Knights went belly up.
I'm no expert on the matter, but it seems wanting to have a Western Sydney team is driven more by desperation than by public demand. The FFA seem worried that they are getting swamped by the other 'football' codes in the region, but if that is the prime motivation then they may have left it too late. If the Canberra bid has a much higher public demand factor, then imo it's a much better option.
The worst thing for the A League would be for the FFA to repeatedly make poor decisions as to where to put a team, only for that team to collapse in a year or two, over and over again. Public support is key to avoiding that.

West Sydney has the player base, but doesn't seem to have the drive to get their own team. The FFA want a team there for the added value it would give the TV rights by having a Sydney derby.

It is the horrendous charges that the Qld government put on Skilled Park that makes it a major problem.Added to that there is no stadium parking so if you live more than 5ks south you can't get a train.These are just two of the problems, regardless of the football code.

It's a bit odd having such a disjoint between A league teams and youth teams.

The FFA should be setting up youth teams in places they wish to expand too in the future. Ok the kids don't get to break thru to the A-League with the club, but it will still help develop local players that could come back to the club if they ever make A-League status.
Places like Wollongong, Geelong, Tasmania and Nth Qld would be areas they could look at.
