Sydney cancel Yau's loan, after he was diagnosed with compartment syndrome.

Adelaide are set to sign Ryan Griffiths on a short term deal, subject to a medical.

First day of the transfer window and we are up to 7 deals now.

Compartment syndrome sounds nasty. Good luck Yau

Basically its when the sheath that is around the muscle is too tight.

I guess the best analogy is imagine putting a ball bearing into a garden hose so its a nice fit and than have the ball bearing grow to the size of a golf ball or the garden hose shrink to the size of a straw. Basically the muscle runs out of room to function and its blood supply and nerves are effected. Usually surgery is required where they slice the muscle sheath and allow it to expand to accommodate and repair itself.

Heart have told Migliorini that they don't have a visa spot available, so can't offer him any extension to his injury replacement deal that expires soon.

Isn't he replacing Engelaar? Does that mean he's due back soonish?

Yep, he signed a 3 month replacement deal to replace Engelaar, which was extended until Jan 31st. Engelaar is about start playing games with the NYL side.

I can think of a better analogy. But this is a family friendly forum.

I'm glad someone has finally said this, I think sometimes the FFA risk making issues look worse by their reaction to them.  In reality, what has actually happened?  Some flares have been let off and no-one got hurt and some fans had a fight.  This is not really a very big deal is it in the grand scheme of things?

Normo's coming home

I'm absolutely stunned that Poljak's views on this are not too dissimilar from mine.

Yeah but look it in context. From where you are from and Poljak, its not a big deal and I accept that totally. In this part of the world (where the biggest news story is a league player getting 2 years jail) letting flares off at a game is a big deal because its happens nowhere. Hence the reaction.

I put this question to the Out of our A-League podcast and its a bit of a hard one imo.

If the A-League season finished today, who would win the Johnny Warren Medal?

Unlike past seasons, there really hasn't been one stand out player yet.

Could be the year of a defender? No clear attackers
Lots of injuries to big names and inconsistent performers.

Could actually argue Nichols up to this point

I'd go with one of Franjic, Broich or Troisi. Probably Broich, since he's such a massive part of a team that is head and shoulders better than everyone else, even though he isn't "standing out" as such

Franjic for me. I think he's one of the most consistently good players this league has seen.

He's not super flashy but he's very very good at what he does.

Broich is having a much better season than last so far.

Yeah I must admit I look to Franjic. I guess if you wanted a bolter, the Jets striker Taggart may have a sniff. He has been a big part of what they have done (and none of us had them in the 6)

Toss up between ADP, Kewell and Emo of course.

Nagai's injury is worse than initially expected, so Glory are cancelling the loan and sending him back to Japan.

Joel Griffiths signs on to the end of the season with the Jets.

About cancelling the loan? Sounds like he will be out for another 10+ weeks. No point in him staying.

He signed with the Jets. They are still trying to extend Nathan Burns' loan also.

Claims in the press that Mooy has put in a transfer request, to join the Jets.

Can only be a money reason cause I could not imagine anyone leaving WSW for the.... Jest.

Is something funny going on a WSW? Don't seem to be trying too hard to hold on to Ono or Hersi and now Mooy wants out?

It's part of a (un)healthy competition between codes, competing on different playing field (apologies for mixing my metaphores here).
A whole bunch of NRL players were investigated for rape (some seasons ago) and someone else is also due to go jail for a serious offence. That's the league players. And sledging in cricket is just part of the cuddly fuzzy image of a gentlemanly sport.

There is relatively little violence etc. on the pitch in A-League and players tend to be squaky clean (OK, there was this problem with Seb Ryall some years ago, but nothing massive in overall scheme of things - he was a few years older than his underage girlfriend). So of course the passionate outpouring of emotions on the football terraces: a) frightens the ignorant public accustomed to silently watching the rugby, and b) provides a great reason for the media financially involved in other codes to put the boot in.  And is in contrast to what happens on the field.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I don't follow other codes at all, but I had an impression that Aussie fans of NRL and AFL weren't exactly silent
(e.g. 80 minutes, 4 emotions?)

I do not mind the Crusaders here in Chch and people treat them like major deities, but the game atmosphere is very low key in comparison with the Yellow Fever. We get to yell and scream more in our ChCh pub watching The Nix on the big screen. Football = different culture.
