Commentators trying to say own goal was at no fault, but ummm, he didn't have to chest it into his own goal.
I also thought the penalty was weak. There was a bit of a tug on the shirt, but then he went down Slovenian style. About as weak as the CCM penalty last night, where there was slight contact on foot followed by dive. Colvinator2010-08-29 19:29:07

I don't see how you can yellow card the defender for committing a foul but not give a penalty. In fact, I'd be surprised if that has ever happened before.

I suppose I understand what you're trying to do there... but really in the rules (as I understand it), if it's a foul worthy of a yellow card, then it must be a penalty as well. A penalty is given just for a regular foul (soft or not), that happens in the box. Which can be a bit stink at times as obviously a penalty has such a large effect on the game.
What they could do more is give a penalty for the tug on the shirt and book the defender... but also the book the striker for simulation. Though of course, strikers might not care about the yellow much if they've won a penalty. Ones like that can be pretty difficult for the referee to see exactly what has happened though.
