Football Federation Australia (FFA) has determined the Hyundai A-League week 11 midweek match between Newcastle Jets and North Queensland Fury is postponed.

Following an official inspection of the EnergyAustralia Stadium playing surface by FFA officials the decision was made to postpone tomorrow nights Hyundai A-League match between Newcastle Jets and North Queensland Fury due to significant damage caused to the playing surface following the Super X event on October 16.

A decision on Sundays Hyundai A-League match between Newcastle Jets and Melbourne Heart is expected to be made tomorrow.

Following an alert from Newcastle Jets management today FFA dispatched senior staff to inspect the playing surface, said Head of Hyundai A-League Lyall Gorman.

The need for player safety and player welfare is paramount and a decision was made that the ground was not acceptable for competitive football.

FFA, in cooperation with Newcastle Jets and FOX Sports, is currently examining alternatives for both matches.

In a positive light - good on Jets management too turn their own pitch in.

How bad must that pitch have had to have been for them to call it off - considering what has been played on in the past!

And Fury not happy about it...

Commenting from EnergyAustralia Stadium, NQ Fury Rabieh Krayem said; This situation is an absolute disgrace.  Whoever is in charge at Newcastle Knights for hiring out the stadium should be held responsible for this and if they worked for me, they wouldnt anymore.

To host a motocross event less than two weeks before an A-League football match is just mindboggling.   Having worked with Dairy Farmers Stadium (Townsville) for over a decade, this situation would not have happened, as the Stadium understands the requirements of both events and how one could affect the other.

This motocross event was held on October 16 and stadium officials would have been aware of the damage long before today, so a decision on our fixture should have been made by Monday at the very latest.

The state of the pitch is beyond a disgrace and is certainly not fit to hold any football match, let alone the countrys premier football competition.

Its astonishing that Football Federation Australia were only made aware of the situation today and that no thought was given by anyone as to where the opposition were travelling from.

We only received a message this afternoon (Tuesday) when we were flying between Brisbane and Newcastle, so this situation is totally unacceptable and questions need to be asked on many levels.

Wow what a cock up. On the bright side maybe Energy Australia will completely redo their pitch which it needed anyway.

Reminds me of the time a concert ruined Etihad [the "we should have played it in the car park" one], always thought that game should have been canned.

Fuck this stupid game

To be fair the pitch at Energy Australia Stadium has always been sh*te so it must be really bad for them to postpone a fixture and move another!

They must have left the motocross dirt ramps on the field.

Bugger. I feel bereft without my Wednesday A League fix. Saw some footage last night of the motocross and it is totally mind boggling that someone even thought it possible the ground would be ready for football in 10 days. Massive black eye.

Mind you even with all the hills, ramps, mud and mounds it was still slightly better than some grounds I can remember playing on around the Wellington region.

Well, I guess we can only hope the FFA holds up other grounds to the same standard, eg Etitard after a concert

In the wake of EnergyAustralia Stadium being deemed unplayable, after the Super X motocross ripped up the surface, news has reached The Football Sack that the FFA is moving swiftly to find an alternative.

The rumor rumbling around football circles is that the current double-header on Saturday at the Sydney Football Stadium, featuring Sydney FC vrs Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory vrs Central Coast Mariners, is to become a quadruple-header.

The postponed match of Newcastle Jets and North Queensland Fury will lead the proceedings, starting at midday, followed by the two games already planned. The Epic Matchday Saturday (EMS) will be rounded out by a second game by Newcastle, this time against Melbourne Heart. Kick-off for this game will be 9.30pm.

It is an unprecedented move by the FFA, who are no doubt patting themselves on the back at having solved the dilemma presented to them this week. Sources reveal the LA Galaxy match was also to feature on EMS, but the FFA only contacted the team whilst they were mid-flight, and this could not go ahead.

Nth Qld Fury are said to be happy at the result, as they no longer have to travel back to Townsville for a few more days. Moreover, they look refreshed at the idea of playing to a stadium that will no doubt reach double figures.

When contacted for a response to allegations that a quadruple-header was not a legitimate solution to unsuitable playing surfaces or poor crowd attendances, an FFA spokesperson seemed coy.

"Yes, the World Cup bid will bring a massive boost to soccer in Australia".

If any of the above were true (which it isn't), the team at The Football Sack would eat their respective hats.
