This randomly crossed my mind.  Remembering back to the last season with the Knights, we had an away game against Perth(?) and Malik Buari wanted to look cool and came onto the field wearing longjohns under his shorts.  After a few minutes the ref noticed, didn't think they were cool and made him leave the field to change, leaving the Knights a man down for about three minutes.  Is there some rule against wearing the longjohns?  Or was it just some A-League rule/a ref looking for any reason to persecute an NZ football team?

I'm pretty sure it's FIFA rules.

Remember Perth had Mori start a game and get sent off to get his wedding ring taken off and after ten minutes with ten men they had to sub a replacement on without Mori having played as he'd never taken the ring off.

It's FIFA rules, but needless officiating.

I see, seems like the type of thing some refs wouldn't care about at all and others would get overly-pernickety over.

My understanding is that if the longjohns match the colour of the shorts and or socks its all ok.  Wedding ring is a little ridiculous.  When my finger swells up and i can't get it off, I just tape it, most refs are ok with that.

Law 4 - Player's Equipment states

...Shorts - if undershorts are worn, they must be the same colour as the shorts ...

There's certainly nothing in the Laws of the Game and there don't seem to be any IFAB Additional Instructions regarding longjohns. I suppose you could argue that, as only undershorts are mentioned in the Laws, that's all you're allowed to wear? As far I can see, most people think that allowing a player to play in longjohns would be at the referees' discretion.

Also, from FIFA.com, "All items of jewellery are potentially dangerous. The term "dangerous" can sometimes be ambiguous and controversial, therefore in order to be uniform and consistent any kind of jewellery has to be forbidden.......Players are not allowed to use tape to cover jewellery. Taping jewellery is not adequate protection".

Strangely, The FA in England says that "Wedding rings must be rendered safe by taping to the satisfaction of the referee"
