Wow, so much hate for Rudan. Actually quite disappointing. He’s a passionate fan of our team and has done great things this year when we all thought we were heading for wooden spoon. He’s choosing to move home because of his family. There is no snake in this move at all

I would not be surprised if Rudan took a year off coaching at A-League level, and spent the time back in Sydney working towards the job with the other expansion team, with maybe some part-time domestic coaching, part-time media personality work.

Though I wouldn't be surprised by various other possibilities either.

BS he told us he was here to build a legacy bla bla bla.Family is sorry just a convenient excuse. Just amazes me he never realized he would need to be away from home when he signed for us.

Yes he has done a good job,BUT most of that will be undone by his turning his back on us and will be even worse if he walks away with some of our players.

Feeling like he has used us and never intended to stay, dont really trust what comes out of his mouth frankly.

Unfortunately, this all comes down to the license/independent A League issue. It just hasn't been resolved within the timeframes expected, creating uncertainty for all. Get that solved, then the investment can happen, and we can attract the right coach with a long term project.

That aside, it definitely feels like Rudan brought us a box of beer, drank it with us, and now he's parked a turd on our sofa.

He might have given us some highs but he'll leave the club in about as at least much as disarray as he found it in.
It doesn't seem like he's given much thought to the future of the club, we've 6 players signed for next season leaving our squad open for his future club among others to snipe.
The management needs to take swift action to demonstrate stability and cohesion.

TBH I feel for the management/ownership. I know that's a rare view, but these guys put far more than can reasonably be expected into the club. They lose far more money than anyone could expect. I've no idea the opportunity cost of Rob Morrison spending what must be a serious amount of time on this, but it must be high.

They took a risk with Darije and it backfired.

Quite reasonably, they thought "let's learn from our mistakes" and signed someone local, and had the 8-week clause. Both are reasonable things to do.

It's a two-year deal. I doubt they'd think that things could have gone so well that other teams would poach the coach. But I think a combination of Rudan missing his family more than he expected, plus doing well meaning he can get a lot of money and get closer to his family, made this a bit of a no-brainer for him.

Let's look on the bright-side, if he goes to WU we'll have a true nemesis in that club. (Obviously the opposite of the brightside is that we may no longer exist past next year).

This "missing my family" crap is starting to wear a bit thin with me.  There are 000s of serviceman all over the world that Miss their families too but get on with the job.  Many Fly in Fly Out workers across Australia that are away for extended periods and Miss their Families to but get on with the job.   None of those will be on the coin that Rudan is, and lets face it, the life of a footy coach is probably alot less stressful than that of a soldier on the line.

If they are on contract - then yes they are.  If they are out of contract that is a different story.  Rudan has been spouting on about creating something for this club, a legacy blah blah blah -  Full of shark he is - he should be embarrassed of himself and his behaviour.  But he will crawl back over the ditch and jump back into bed with his Fox sports buddies

... And then he got out of his contract early; if not actively taking our best players with him, then certainly allowing it to happen; and deflated the team spirit to the point where the wheels have come off. We're not going to get a home playoff and we'll be out after week 1 of the finals, assuming we even get there.

It is the equivalent of running 25 miles of a marathon then giving up. We are no better off than we started because he leaves us nothing to build on. If he'd at least seen out the season before doing this to us I might have some respect. Now, I have none. He's left us with no hope, no players and no future (to be fair, it's more the FFA which has done the last).

I wish he'd never come and I'll boo him if I'm ever at the same ground again.

to me this all shows a worrying aspect about this club. The club/board couldn't back there decision making in the coach appointment so wanted a get out clause...very negative. Rudan asked for the same clause backing himself if things went well and got an approach that interested him...being positive. I don't blame him for leaving the club, when they can't even back it's own decisions. How can any organization be successful when it worries about it own decisions like we are seeing. If you got a good offer then you have to go because there is something fundamentally negative in the employment process at the nix. Really wonders who they employ from here.

Obviously if this 8 week thing is not a thing then Rudan is a dog, however FMD if it exists there is something wrong in the front office to even think like that

I don't recall Rudan saying anything specifically anti-Nix. The Fox Sport crowd have generally been disapproving of us since day 1, the likes of Slater, Kosmina, Bosnich, Postecoglou and Harper vocally so. Even Mike Cockerill wasn't defending us in the end. So you could impute that Rudan in his job as a Fox pundit may have had the same opinion but I certainly don't remember him offering anything more than the usual kicking for poor performances that frankly we richly deserved in previous seasons.

I get the angst (v Rudan, v club, v independent league group, v Fox etc) and I feel it. But now is not the time for turning on everyone. Besides, let’s see what is said at the presser on Monday

Remember:

- it’s been well known/signaled for months now

- we’ve ALWAYS known this was a stepping stone role for him

- a core group of players are better now than they were before he started

And yeah I know Kurto, Willo, Roy are all going but Sail, Taylor, Cacace, Fenton, Rufer, Singh, hopefully Sheridan are staying.

A pro gig will always attract a coach and players; next year will be what it will be.

And Rudan’s views while at fox are irrelevant. From memory he was studiously neutral - as you would be if you’re a potential candidate for a gig.

Read Paul Ifill’s comments. And Pineys’.

Live in the present and enjoy the fudgeing moment. We are (almost certainly) going to be in the finals series. It’s been a while. Be a proud Nix fan ffs.

We share a common issue, the last change in ownership has resulted in beyond poor Football understanding in relation to the Australian sporting environment.

Mike Charlesworth, has taken the Mariners close very close actually to being regulated his penny pinching and trying to control the club from England is beyond crazy maybe crazy is the wrong word but inept, incompetence certainty are.

Your ownership equally ignored many early warning signs and seemed to lack vision on what they had and how they could use it to grow.

Both owners, especially Charlesworth let Hal in general down.

Both owners I think will need to convince the new management team running Hal, they have version,  and drive to do more than make up the numbers. Rudan leaving and in part because of the owners lack of vision can't help.

It will be our last year. Because we needed an epic season this year to ensure our future; Rudan got us 90% of the way there and pulled the plug, taking the cream of our players with him.

I certainly don't envisage following the team or becoming a member during our "lame duck" season; in fact,  I probably won't pay much attention to the inevitable embarrassing collapse at the end of this season (already begun as Rudan loses interest and starts planning for a golden future at the West Melbourne Bogans).

Say what you like about Judas players like Smeltz or Kosta; they did what was good for their careers but they didn't scupper the club's future by doing so.

Can understand why you may have a clause like that. Colorado Rapids are still paying out an ex coach, plus arguably now have in Huddo a struggling coach who they can’t afford to also jettison and pay out early.

Who knows how Rudan would have turned out when he first signed.

Welnix chuck their own hard earned into this club every week. Not you or me. A club that may be kicked out of the A League in 12 months. I don’t blame them for being prudent, until they have certainty.

However I will criticise them if they don’t act decisively this week. Senior player meeting. If the squad have lost respect or don’t want Rudan in charge in any longer, tell him to pack his bags by Tuesday. It should be a senior player driven thing, they will know what’s best going into finals.

Comes across a little patrionising, "At the start of the season it was pretty clear even from our own fans had we finished 8th or 9th would have been an improvement on last season and seasons gone by. I mean what we have done is raised expectations of the football club with our fans; all the pundits and experts at the start of the year said we would be finishing wooden spoons...put things into context, we're sitting fourth, Wellington Phoenix!"

Finishing 9th would not have been an improvement and we last got the wooden spoon 6 years ago. We're not going to have our best ever regular season. If we don't pick up 3 more points this will be our 4th best regular season.

Do the owners have any of their senior management employees in their other business with rolling 8 week contracts ?

Whilst the management/owners may be professional in managing their other business interests, in terms of managing the Nix they are amateur.

I placed us number one, not sure what he’s talking about. Time will tell how good he as coach really is. I thought this post presser sounded very arrogant. I always had problem with his over the top confidence.

I found quite interesting that the likes of Paul Ifill thinks he’s great. Some people can be really persuasive. I guess at the end his wife was not buying into a move and he had to give in.
