Are McKain and Durante's selction political?

With Bin Hamman in town was Verbeek pressured to select any eligible Phoenix players to support an FFA argument that the Nix are not only helping out Oceania football with 6 All-Whites but also helping the development of an Asian confederation team, ie Australia with 2 socceroos?

Discuss..

I can't see it.

Second best defence in the league, lowest number of losses.  You would expect the defenders from that side to be considered for national selection, and when the main defensive pairing for the lowest conceding team includes a foreigner you would expect them to be next cab off the rank after Colosimo.

I mean, who else you going to select ?  Fyfe ?  Cornthwaite ? Rees ?  Andy Todd ?

McKain in Melbourne when he injured himself was imperious, one of the best defensive displays I've seen in the A-League, and apart from Jaza - and one or two others - most Aussies have been calling for Dura to make an A-League side once they see past club parochialism.

Agree with Hard News.

HN also forgot to mention that McKain also has International Caps so he is experienced

Well....IMO Durante and McKain deserve their call-ups, and are more deserving of their place than some other squad members - so this wouldn't be a token gesture.

SBS just projected that Durante and McKain will line up as the 2 centre bacs on Wednesday night.

Jade North has gone to Norway to sign a new club deal, which effectively cleared the way for these gents to start (well that's what Fozzie and Les said).

Carry on.
