Pretty average name if you ask me.

This is a cooler logo than their team.

Well, all except for the wannabe 1847 part... Sheesh. Exageration much?

He isn't getting much (if any) promotional gigs in Melbourne by the sounds of it, can understand that he'd rather by in NY raking in the cash and being with his family rather than Melbourne at a par-club.

Pretty hilarious though, Melbourne City drove home memberships with him as marketing tool.

The REAL question is how many people bought Phoenix memberships in the hopes they'd be seeing David Villa play in round 8 and now, subsequently, want a refund.

You feel that this was the chance for City to really build support. Losing Villa so early means that potential fans will probably be turned off. It will be harder to get more fans in future seasons.

Realistically they need to of signed as marquee Villa rather than have him as a guest. This should be their goal in the future and they will most likely be able to achieve this.

Good opinion piece on Villa departing prematurely here:

https://www.theroar.com.au/2014/10/23/melbourne-cit...

Other articles and forum posts I've read suggest Melbourne City knew Villa was leaving early some time ago but didn't make it public to con fans into buying season tickets and merchandise.

Dishonest - and City Football Group who own Melbourne City and New York City are treating Melbourne City and the A-League with contempt.

Reports suggest it's unlikely Villa will return at all in December now as previously speculated.

From the above link:

Melbourne City should have been upfront about David Villa

Columnist

By Vince Rugari, 23 Oct 2014

"While loan deals are cancelled prematurely as a matter of course in football, this is not your ordinary loan. For one, Melbourne and New York share 80 per cent of the same corporate DNA. And it’s not like Villa is going back to his parent club to play games, or even train – pre-season doesn’t start until late January, and NYC won’t play their first game until March. That’s why the full quota of games were expected from him – what else was he going to do with himself until then? The calendars matched up perfectly in a rare win-win...

...That any ‘promotional’ work in New York is considered more important to the City Football Group than building a fan-base in Melbourne feels a little disrespectful. There is more money to be made in New York, but there is more work to do in Melbourne. The stench of the Heart still lingers with every game City dominates and fails to win. Everyone wants this reborn club to stick the landing, and having Villa on deck until Christmas would go a long way to ensuring that.

Just four games? Not enough. Villa is entitled to go back and check on his family, if that’s what he wants to do – and man, it must be tough settling into a place like New York on a World Cup winner’s wage. However, if the Melbourne arm of the sky blue empire knew all along that he would go back this early, even if it’s only temporary, they should have been clear and let their fans know it was on the cards.

Honesty is always the best policy, and in this instance, it would have placed an even greater importance upon each of his appearances. By holding this information back, by speaking in maybes and possibilities, the club has used up some of its goodwill, and many fans have been left with a bad taste in their mouths."

So let me see if I got this right?

Big ongoing announcements about Damien Duff, Frank Lampard jnr and David Villa coming to play with Melbourne City, the club now owned by Manchester City and first up, fat Frank says no and stays at City, Now Villa gone after only 4 games and Duff left holding their attractions.

Fans sold into the idea of seeing some former decent footballers in their midst and buying up jerseys and season tickets and are now left gutted with an average team to show. Talk about how to lose fans and alienate those who are hardcore.

Fat frank didn't say no. He Had a contract signed with Melbourne heart, a-league cancelled the contract because it wouldn't let two group players at the same time

I think they are going to look to revitalise their squad in January big time. Sounds like Koren is almost ready to make his debut as well.

English Premier League giant Manchester City has paid $2.25 million to a group of prominent Australian investors to take full ownership of A-League club Melbourne City.

According to documents lodged with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission last week, Manchester City now owns 100 per cent of its Melbourne club, having bought out minority owners Gerry Ryan, a BRW Rich List member and owner of caravan group Jayco, Crownbet chief executive Matthew Tripp, sports entrepreneur Bart Campbell and New Zealand businessman Michael Witt.

Surely van't Schip is also on the chopping block. Best attack by a mile (14 more than the roar) and probably the most money but all they can do is finish fourth?

Maybe we should be looking to boost our coaching ranks and get Trani back, we had a couple of good seasons with him in his role.

Melbourne City has confirmed defender Ivan Franjic has been ruled out for an indefinite period after suffering a virus during pre-season.

The virus has caused inflammation in the area surrounding his heart and subsequently the player has discontinued training.

Franjic is currently under the care and assessment of a specialist cardiologist who has advised that he will make a full recovery.
