Melbourne derby re-scheduled

The first ever Melbourne derby of the Hyundai A-League between Melbourne Heart and Melbourne Victory will now be held at 7.30pm on Friday, October 8 at AAMI Park.

The match was originally scheduled to be played at 7.30pm on Saturday, October 2 at AAMI Park and has been rescheduled today to avoid a clash with the replay of the AFL Grand Final.

This is one of our marquee games and it is important that we give our fans every opportunity to get to the game and be part of history, said Head of the Hyundai A-League Lyall Gorman.

The rescheduling makes sense on a lot of levels and will give us clear space in the lead up and a clear precinct on the night so we can maximize exposure and attendance.

I would like to acknowledge the collaborative approach taken by the clubs, our broadcaster Foxsports and all of our stakeholders to allow this move to occur.

This is all a bit farcical really. Trust the Aussies to forget to add something like extra time to the rules of a game.

I'm happy. If there was extra time then the Saints would have won, no problems.

Ive been on the 442 forums this morning (probably my first mistake) and I can't believe all the angst about this. Seems to me like it is an absolute no-brainer.

Why would FFA want to take an AFL Grand Final head on? Its a ridiculous notion. I can see how people are pissed off regarding flights and plans and that kind of thing but for the good of the League and the game this derby really needs to turn into something. Having the first one on at the same time as a GF wouldn't have been the best start.

This derby hype, does anyone care? Genuinely?
They are trying to make it sound like a huge thing but I'm not buying it (yet).

Anyone got any idea of ticket sales and/or if anyone in Melbourne really cares?

Wow!

That's great news for the A-League, I'm stoked.
A sell-out early season game is a great sign.
Australia will probably start getting some more decent crowds now the AFL and the NRL have finished for the season.

I hope Wellington can follow.

I think that after 110 years of that competition being played that the Australian Football League know about the extra time system.

I would have said that the 93,000 strong crowd last Saturday for the tie-breaker would have generated many un-anticipated millions of dollars for the Australian Football League and the greater Melbourne geographical district, which is not as silly as one would think.

this game is already looking like a cracker, end to end, both look like they really want the win. Heart probably want it so much to win fans, victory want it for the territory that has been theirs for so long.

living up to the hype?

Fuck this stupid game
