Could they make another grand final, only to choke in it again?

14 May 11:25

Western Sydney advance 2-0. Good effort.

14 May 11:25

Choke averted! Well done WSW, only the 2nd A League club to get to the last 8.

Now the challenge to keep Poppa & rebuild a competitive squad to play the next round. Most of that back line is off contract.

True. As mentioned earlier this does make the ACL slightly farcical unfortunately. Come August they will have an entirely different look. Ono especially will be missed. He was outstanding tonight.

Warning: Put on your tin foil hats before reading the rest of this post.

We all know WSW had the 2 extra visa spots for their first two years but given how much quality players they are shredding atm, do you think they also had a salary cap concession to be competitive?

Admittedly they are being taken over by new owners, who might wish to cut costs a little but it does seem a strange co-incidence in timing.

I think most of the players they released wanted pay rises (Ono, Hersi,  Polenz, Mooy) that the club wasn't prepared to give, so the players have gone elsewhere, or have been deemed surplus to requirements (Beauchamp, D’Apuzzo, Minniecon, Barresi). Also Heffernan has retired and tyson the GK may be looking for a starting spot somewhere else.

Vitor Saba, he knew about WSW before they were cool.

Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

Playing for Western Sydney of course.

Wanderers sign former Dutch international Romeo Castelen.

Class player hindered by injuries for some years. Ex -Feyenoord, Hamburg, RKC winger - 10 Netherlands caps

Had a full season (29 games) for RKC Waalwijk in the Erdedivisie last season so seems to be fit again:

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/football/weste...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romeo_Castelen

They made Brazilian Vitor Saba their marquee before Castelen became available - Castelen is a much more high-profile player and has spent most of his career in the Eredivisie and Bundesliga. More worthy of the marquee position.

Saba didn't make it in Brazil (one appearance for Flamengo). "After loans to Brazilian state league sides Macaé, Vitória and Boavista in 2011 and 2012 proved unsuccessful, with Saba failing to make an appearance at either club, he returned to Flamengo. On 14 August 2012, Saba transferred to Italian Serie B club Brescia. During his two season stint, Saba made 35 appearances (including 2 Coppa Italia matches) and scored 3 goals." (Wiki) Only 33 league appearances in two seasons for Brescia in Serie B.

Still, that's going to be a class all-foreign midfield at Wanderers with Castelen, Saba, La Rocca and Poljak

La Rocca played at a decent level in the Swiss Super League 2008 - 2012 (including major club Grasshoppers) before signing for Wanderers.

Saw this on twitter, this is who is left from the original Wanderers squad after only two seasons

Another set of new kits for WSW this season

20 Aug 10:08

Currently 0-0 in the Champions League..

20 Aug 10:48

A good goal from Golec and it's 1-0 Western Sydney.

20 Aug 11:01

I don't normally go in for the WSW bashing, but this is just too good.  From the recent kit launch - for a made up team that has been around for 2 years...it's almost satire...

This season, Western Sydney Wanderers will play in Nike kits that pay homage to the club's rich football culture and tradition. Wanderers will first play in the new away kit on Aug. 12 in the FFA Cup.

The new kits maintain the club’s iconic hoops and celebrated intertwined crest that represents the team's unity and multicultural community.

Nike added more hoops to both the home and away jerseys to better reflect the club’s identity and original design.

The new cut and fit of this season's kit were inspired by classic menswear silhouettes. The change to a crewneck and updated fit modernize the kit while retaining a traditional look.

HOME KIT

The new home shirt maintains the long-standing black and red hoops design that Western Sydney has sported since their first season. The new home shorts are white and feature the team crest, while the new home socks are black and gray with a red Swoosh and calf detail.

AWAY KIT

The new away shirt has clean and classic gray and white hoops, a change from the previous red and white hoops. The new away shorts are black and feature the team crest, while the new away socks are white and gray with a red Swoosh.

Normo's coming home

20 Aug 11:15

To be fair, isn't every team a 'made up team'?

Never understood when English fans say things like that about newer teams from countries other than their own (like the A league).

But yeah to go on about "The long standing hoops design that WSW has sported since their first season (2 years ago)" is hilarious.

Saba is a cnut.

20 Aug 11:30

Wow. Dramatic end to that one.

20 Aug 11:37

Embarassing.

Juric dived then wagged his finger at ref when got a yellow.

La Rocca and Saba play acted to get two players sent.

Bad quality but this is the only youtube video with both reds I can find

20 Aug 22:04

And that, ladies and gentleman, is why everyone hates WSW. That is absolute bullshit.

20 Aug 23:52

Ive taken an instant dislike to Saba, only caught the last 10 minutes but his antics were disgusting. What you dont see in that clip is a bad tackle he did on a guy himself.

& the denial from them is incredible.

I guess it's why most of the sidelines choose to stand with their backs turned to the game now.

Pretty lucky to get through this morning. The wsw didn't dominate the game by any means, but seoul(?) Tactics were pretty poor. If they played a bit smarter they could have thrashed wsw.

In a Hyundai A-League first, a club will have a McDonalds meal named after it following today's announcement of a new partnership between Western Sydney Wanderers and the fast food giant.

The 'Wanderers meal' launches today (Quarter Pounder, Large Fries, Large Coke, six McNuggets and sauce) for $9.95 for a limited time across 88 participating stores in Western Sydney.

Order it as a *Happy Meal* and you also get a bandana, dark glasses, megaphone, false ID, a 1 time 'we don't know who did that' pass, 6 flares, an unrealistic sense of self entitlement, and an angry FFA official.

23 man squad might be a bit niggly for that... alot of English sides can run into a schedule like that if they have a cup run.
