Both Con Constantine and Nathan Tinkler have been a shambles at Newcastle.  The FFA have to ask a lot of questions about thei way they select prospective licence holders. The evidence in Newcastle is that they have not got it right at any stage during the clubs 10 yr history and quite frankly its a surprise the club lasted this long.

Is there a large enough fan base to think about being partially fan owned? Is it something that should even be considered?

Terrible situation but had to chuckle at "I think its fair to say that there are not too many of our squad that would get a start at Adelaide United, Melbourne Victory or Wellington Phoenix – the depth is not what we hoped it would be at the start of the season."

We're a glamour club!

P.S. "Former New Zealand World Cup and Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert, who is in charge of Indian Super League franchise NorthEast United, has expressed an interest if the position if it became available."

Not surprised Ricki is interested as it would be a decent paying gig in his backyard. I also think he would be a good coach for them as well. Defensive minded, but he will get them very organised quickly.

It would actually be a good move for Tinkler to make I think. Ricki has a track record both internationally and domestically (HAL) so it would give him a coach that could not really be ignored (as much as Stubbins has not the same track record)

That entire statement is disappointingly reasonable and mature.  Where is the suggestion of a last minute silent protest against something the capos won't tell you about until after the game? Where's the flares?  Where's the demand for administration heads to roll?  Where is the abuse of the players that they supposedly support?  They can't even do angst right!

Scott McIntyre @mcintinhos

I'm hearing that 5 'senior' Newcastle Jets players have also been told to leave the club.

High noon coming at Jets. 5 players and 3 coaches sacked. I'm told FFA have been preparing legal brief for days. Tinkler in turn will (cont)

take out injunction, or try to, when FFA take licence. Will head for high court, with sacked players assuming they will return when (cont)

Quick to blame anyone else for his failings.

In a 7-0 drumming you should take responsibility, the coach is not the only one at fault. Not a good fit in a cohesive unit.

More generally he's just a cock, both on and off the field. Already got himself into the headlines for abusing a fan late last year, now this business of being a "divisive presence". Obviously we can't take the news reports as gospel but it always gives me the shivers hearing about cabals of senior pros agitating to get rid of coaching staff and thereby bringing a club to its knees. Carney, Griffiths and Jaliens are all proven hot heads anyway so you can imagine the carnage they could cause within the ranks.

Very, very sad for all those loyal Jets fans. I'm only thankful that even in the darkest hour of the Nix a few seasons back nothing like this disgraceful situation occurred.

Anyone want to speculate who could leave other clubs to sign with Jets? Apparently they have 5 players lined up; Korean fullback, Travis Cooper (Aussie youth striker), Spanish CB playing in Thailand and two others from A-League clubs.

Maybe Isaka Cernak wants to add another A-League notch to his belt??

I respect Tinkler for this. Has backed his guy and colours to the mast. At least he did what he said he would. I get tired of players thinking they have the power

In press release from A-league last night.

"The contracts of Billy Celeski, Joel Griffiths, Kew Jaliens and Adrian Madaschi were due to expire at the end of the current season but the players will now leave the club immediately.

The contract of David Carney has been terminated for disciplinary reasons.

Chairman Nathan Tinkler cited wanting to change the culture of the club as a key factor in these decisions."

What would the table look like with Newcastle's results annulled?  Is this a possibility? (I remember it happening in the old English 4th division many years ago when Aldershot went tits up). We'd lose six points; Adelaide would benefit.

The A League didn't annul with GCU - earlier results stood and remaining games everyone else got a default win against them, people muttered about the lost opportunity for goal difference increases etc.

Didn't they play on till the end of the season with a youth team under Mike Mulvey?

hard to know how much the situation at the jets is causing that - I think bring him into our environment he would be fine.

So does anyone know about the legality of sacking the players during the season, seems crazy that they can just let five players go?

Don't see how its any different to being sacked from anywhere else you work. Any employer has the right to terminate employment. Whether its deemed unfair or not, that's another issue that will be argued and decided on another day.

Yeah that was more what I was meaning. Listen to radio interview with head of Players Association and he was saying they are trying to work out what the players termination contract was, where club sacked them or was it a mutual one that was offered that then actually has to be accepted by the players.

The player sack under disciplinary apparently had already had three warnings. "Tinkler, reinforcing what press release said: "Carney has three strikes against his name and has been let go because of behavioural issues."
