FFA confirms that the FFA independent Disciplinary Committee comprising John Marshall SC, Lachlan Gyles SC and Shaun McCarthy will hear an application from Perth Glory Football Club at 5.30pm AEST Wednesday 15 April 2015.

The Disciplinary Committee will hear Perth Glory’s application that the board of FFA had no power to impose sanctions on the Club for breaches of the salary cap.

Sounds like the FFA board was wearing the wrong hat when it ruled on the salary cap breach.

So who does have the power to impose sanctions for salary cap breaches? The disciplinary committee?

Yep, the FFA didn't follow their rules it seems but as -Naz- mentions in the Out Of Our A-League podcast, the judge's comments in their appeal to the courts said you would probably win on that technicality but then they will just make the same decision thru the right processes anyway.

What a pack of arseholes. They get busted for cheating, so their defence is that the people who busted them didn't have the right to bust them. It's bad enough they cheated but they don't even have the shred of grace or honour required to just take their fudgeing medicine.

yeah but would it be too late to exclude them from the finals by that point?

Probably not, one of the factors of getting an interim injunction would be that they'd have a reasonable possibility of success in a substantive trial. A judge give them the benefit of the doubt if it was arguable but if the judge thinks they're pretty clearly going to lose a substantive trial then they won't get the interim injunction either.

Arsehole is the right description. Kudos to the fans for the protest, showing the Perth management what they think. No fans, no club!

Perth are extremely lucky, if there was promotion and relegation this would be automatic relegation for sure.  If it was as stated in that article (deliberate cheating to sign the team they wanted) there is absolutely no defence.

Maybe but better option may have been not evening turning up leaving the stadium and surrounding area empty.

Interesting discussion on the fox sports podcast about this issue.  Consensus seems to be this issue is "widespread" and Perth are pretty much only guilty of getting caught.

Also that Perth have been run in a joke way for a long time with all sorts of iffy practices and backhanders all over the place to players and agents

So it is widespread and FOX think it is OK? No surprise. That is why Ernie calls for checking all teams, withoiut saying he suggest that other teams cheating. And I personally like to see players banned, too. Keogh is a cheating, he is worse than Neumann.

The FFA have left the salary cap to the clubs to self police, is it really a shock that someone decided to break it? If it wasn't for the 'disgruntled former employee' going to the local paper, nothing would have come to light.

It isn't the first time teams have been accused but last time it was seemingly swept under the carpet https://www.smh.com.au/sport/a-league/football-federation-ignored-sydney-fcs-alleged-breach-of-salary-cap-20110617-1g87w.html

They talked about players being given "allowances" for promotional appearances (or hinted at it) that were aid outside the cap.  I'm sure there are plenty of ways round the cap if you want to get there, some will be legal, some will be grey and some will be completely illegal.  I'm not in favour of people just ignoring the cap, but it is too a certain extent voluntary!  Completely agree that self-policing is asking for trouble

I think the protest is great. It still supports the team in a way without supporting the club itself. Perth's fans seem to be accepting responsibility when their club isn't.

The joys of appealing decisions is normally that, when your appeal is kicked out, you cop an even bigger punishment than you were in for originally. I really hope this is going to be the case with Perth.

Am I the only one who won't be surprised if they go back to the injunction/supreme court route again after the FFA tell them to go and get f***ed? Football authorities don't have a habit of being massively supportive of clubs who threaten court action against them. This saga is just going to keep on giving

Well at least Sage was a man of his word...

This is an utter farce and if they were smart, they would look at all of this and withdraw the appeal. The fact that they have fired their CEO says 'We are guilty' cause if they did not think they were, then they would not fire him.

The problem is that once you choose to dig your heels in and protest your innocence you back yourself in to a corner and it becomes more and more difficult to then turn around and admit otherwise. That's just human nature. The rest of us learnt that when we were about six years old, but it seems Sage is a bit behind the eight ball.

Pretty much what Neil Sherwin says in that Glory podcast, the club don't feel they have done anything wrong and the more they push that, the less room they give themselves to back down.

Apparently Jason Brewer was solely responsible. Including for the breaches 3 years ago, before he joined the club.

What a ridiculous statement that is.

So you can bet your ass that Lowy is in the background trying to canvas for a new owner cause he is the puppet master on this. Sage will have quietly been told to consider selling up very quickly I would suspect.
