If they play in the play-offs it will be a joke.

Personally i fully expect it to be rugged and they play in the finals.

Surely not. If they're allowed to play in the finals what message does that send to the world about the credibility of the League?

surely not. Could you imagine if they went on a finals run and ended up winning the grand final? That'd be ridiculous. Sends the wrong message too, it'd almost make it worth ignoring the salary cap.

You can rest assured that the FFA wont rush into this one because they know that Tony Sage, being a Mining magnate, is not afraid of having a legal battle to get his way regardless of how deep in the wrong he is.

The FFA doesnt have that sort of cash lying around and will pissfart around for ages until the problem is conveniently swept under the carpet.

Just like they have done with Nathan Tinkler

Can't they just hire a bunch of community coaches on massively inflated salaries who just happen to be good footballers who are willing to play first team football?

That can't work... whoever would do that?

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/perth-glory/perth-glory-expected-to-accept-some-charges-over-aleague-salary-cap-breaches-20150408-1mgz0r.html

Perth Glory are expected to accept some allegations of breaching the A-League salary cap issued by Football Federation Australia in their official response to a show-cause notice provided on Wednesday night.

The club did not meet the FFA's deadline to respond to allegations of serious breaches of the salary cap by the close of business on Wednesday and was granted a last-minute request for a two-hour delay. However, Fairfax Media understands the club intends to contest some of the serious allegations issued by the FFA, while it will accept others in the hope of avoiding a heavy sanction and the possible deduction of competition points.

The club is making internal manoeuvres to bring its expenditure down, having negotiated with players to take pay cuts for the remainder of the season to limit the amount Perth Glory are alleged to have exceeded the salary cap.

Here's what the table would look like if Andy Keogh's goals and assists didn't count. Perth would lose 13 points, Victory gain 7, Brisbane gain 3, we gain 2, and Sydney and Newcastle would gain 1.

So is Sage going to sack his CEO? The fact is they are squirming like hell to get under the cap.

The problem that the FFA faces is that the A-League is in such a procarioius position, when the NRL had their issues they were much stronger and had way more clubs that they could afford to be tough, can the FFA strip Perth of all their points (and if Alistair Edwards is involved then they must have been rorting the cap in previous years, so they may need to strip points for a couple of seasons) .

well we already know competition integrity doesn't matter to the FFA. Games during international windows, nix not being allowed to play FFA cup games at home, kickoff times during the hottest part of the day in Perth, unbalanced fixture scheduling, amateur referees. Guessing we will be adding leniency on salary cap breaches to that list.

They have to do something otherwise what are they going to do to the next team that does it? It basically says the the salary cap is a token line in the sand that you can cover and redraw to suit your own needs. Gallop will be acutely aware of this from his NRL days.

Regardless how stable the competition is or not, if some owners are whinging that they are losing money, then they need to be saved from themselves and that is done with the the salary cap. Enforce it and then tell the owners to fudge up if they cross it.

If Perth are $400k over and have saved $50k into next year, they are pretty much still completely fudgeed and are about to need a new CEO. Sage coming out and saying that was odd and how he can say he has no idea when he bankrolls the team......

I wonder how the players must feel, if they stand their ground and hold the club to the original contract they set themselves up to be vilified for what is purely the fault of the club. On top of the FFA I wouldn't mind hearing from the PFA.

Wait a minute. They get caught paying to much, now they try to cut payment to go under the cap? And think it is all good? This is not how those things work.

Why not. What he is signed for and what is paid are different.
If you sign a deal for 100k but are only ever paid 80k of that, what should count against the cap - the amount signed for of the amount paid? In reverse of that we have Keogh at $150k and rumoured to have been paid $300k so they are counting what he has been paid, and not what he is on the books for.

If a player is on the books for $500k over 2 years and rather than have it as 2 equal amounts of $250k, why can't the player take 50k less this year and $50k more next year to make it as $200k and $300k? If they don't pay more than the 2.25m or whatever it is, thats cool.

Other sports allow for the front/back loading of contracts in order to fit players under their caps but afaik, the A-League didn't allow for that. But its a murky area that hasn't been spoken about much.

Well if the HAL don't allow it then what number8 says stands then.

I guess the only way out of that is to re-do the contract into 2 so they have 1 contract for this year and it is worth 1y @ 200k and then sign a separate contract where is is 1y @ $300k for the 15/16 season.

Payments are allegedly being sent through 3rd parties to be paid to family members of a player as fees for a fashion show.

I would be suprised if the PFA thought that was acceptable. I doubt all PFA members endorse breaking salary cap rules.

Third-party inducements and "boosters" may be acceptable or common in some places, but FFA has chance to stamp it out in the ALeague like the NRL did previously.
