"As you know, Sydney FC play against Everton on 10 July at ANZ Stadium.

Sydney has also entered into an agreement to play against Glasgow Rangers, Blackburn Rovers and AEK Athens, in a tournament between 25 & 31 July at the Sydney Football Stadium. We can confirm Sydney FC plan this tournament to be an annual fixture on the Sydney FC calendar known as the Sydney Festival of Football and have already commenced discussions with European clubs for 2011.

You may hear the NSW Premier announce this today, and of course, there are discussions in place with various broadcasters (both cable and free-to-air) on taking these games."

Plus another Source, saying AEK Athens have been added to this tournament

"SYDNEY'S Festival of Football kicks off was launched today with A-League champions Sydney and Greek powerhouse AEK meeting in the opener of a four-team tournament in late July.

Organisers of the tour told media this morning that the NSW government has committed to backing the concept for the coming three years starting with this event that also includes Blackburn Rovers and Glasgow Rangers."

I'd love to go watch Rangers & Rovers play. Wish more teams like that would come to NZ.

How much is the NSW government putting into holding the event tho? Dont think Wellington could afford the same contribution to getting big teams down here.

The last thing we need is hordes of drunken Huns stumbling out of the woodwork. Let Aussie have them

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Flying to Sydney for the week to watch THE TEDDY BEARS in action. Group of four of us from Wellington, anyone else heading over for the festivities?
