Breaking News this morning :l

"Legendary journalist, columnist and broadcaster Rebecca Wilson has passed away.

The award-winning sports journalist at The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph lost her long and very private battle to cancer this morning.

Her husband John Hartigan and sons Tom and Will this morning said:

“Our amazing Bec lost her long battle against breast cancer early today.

Rebecca Wilson and John Hartigan - Champions of the West Ceremony at Rooty Hill RSL.

“She passed away peacefully in the family home in Sydney while surrounded by her loved ones.

“Courage has always been a significant part of her DNA, no less in her desperate battle against her insidious disease.

“Rebecca kept knowledge of her illness a closely guarded secret. The majority of her friends, colleagues and indeed members of her family were unaware of the extent of her illness. She did so to limit their suffering.

“We are so proud that she was so fearless in her chosen role as a sports journalist. She brushed aside evil trolls, bullies and organised crime figures to prosecute her craft.

“She proved that women had an equally important role in sports journalism as her male counterparts."

She didn't like football or it's supporters - but she was straight up about it.

Not popular, but then again every thing she did got the game more exposure and gave supporters the chance to speak out in reply - united A League fans like nobody else in some ways too.

54 is no age though.

Yeah, don't like what she did with her reporting about Football in Australia but no one deserves cancer and to die young.

I'm positive things will go wrong.

The unfortunate irony in her death being on A-League opening day..

The only thing that deserves cancer can go get cancer itself.

Not a fan of hers, she said some nasty things over the years but she was someones mother, sister, child & wife, so it isn't nice to hear about her passing.

Not a fan of hers either but wrong or right at least she seemed to be a straight shooter and never looked for sympathy either.

54 is young to die, not much difference between her age and mine.

As one gets older the more often this happens with people of your same era (especially the last couple of years) and makes it more important for everyday to be about quality not quantity, as much as I'm able.

She was also a recidivist drunk driver and driving whilst disqualified: spread lies and disinformation about football. But now she's dead we're all supposed to say nice things about her?

I wouldn't want to be so hypocritical.

So pretty much everyone here is saying that it's shark that cancer killed her at 54. Which is more like calling cancer shark rather than saying nice things about Wilson.

But yeah, feel free to just read whatever suits your narrative .

I've often thought the best way to be imortal is to be a bastard to everyone because only nice people die.

I have not read anything negative from any football fan about her since her passing. Shows that maybe she got it all wrong...
