Huge if true, and would put Perth as my early dark horses for the title. Lesser known than Honda, but overall probably a much better signing. Urretaviscaya would be massive for the league (the guy played at the world cup for Uruguay and plays for one of Mexico's best teams). Crazy stuff

CCM probably will end up selling him to a K-League side then ...

Seriously tho, I would hate to be the person sorting out the contract. Bolt has a massive deal with Puma, you think they would be happy to see him playing in Umbro kits?

Was waiting for the Appiah comparison. Both are quick.

The notion of the FFA funding a below-standard player based on celebrity is interesting

I wonder if we could get Robbie Williams to play a few games for us?

How can we be so sure he's below standard? News

Would be a decent trainer and is a driven world class athlete. Be better than Jimmy Downey or Toto

He was below the required standard for the 4th best club in Norway, so whilst yeah, he has speed on a flat track wearing spikes - there's a bit more than that to being a professional footballer.

Would be great for the marketers and lols tho... many heads would internally combust!

Got a very good left foot according to Mariners chief exec. Hopefully not in spikes.

Would be an absolutely pathetic signing that would destroy any credibility the league thinks it has.

Yes, it is lose-lose. If he is bad the league is gimmicky, if he is good then the league is shark.

Though, would be fun to watch and with the amount of $$$ there would be a bit of pressure on playing him. Are CCM wanting to win another spoon?

As much as I'd like to see Bolt play out of curiosity, I really this scenario won't eventuate in the A-League.

As mentioned above, it's a lose-lose.

Happy to watch him play in Scandinavia or the MLS or something.

Can we sign Rod Stewart?

Can we sign Ian Botham? My DeLorean is set up for 1985 and ready to go

More seriously, they've had some success in the States converting sprinters to rugby sevens players, but outfield in football has a whole set of specialist skills.

I would have thought that with Bolt's well publicised love for football, he would have played whenever he got the chance, and he might well have all the basic skills. As a top class athlete, he would have had to choose his sport to concentrate on. I bet he's not a bad footballer.

Botham wouldn't sign as we have too many turfs here - When he signed for Scodhorpe, turfs were just being introduced, when asked about them he famously said he preferred grass!

Good on Piney for chatting to Brockie this morning about this. Basically he said good on him for wanting to be a pro footballer, but if he wasn't a celebrity he wouldn't have been invited back for a second day of trials.

Yeh I just missed Piney's chat with Brockie. A good person to talk to, did he say he had done a training with Bolt?

Australian winger Awer Mabil's future with Danish champions FC Midtjylland is up in the air as he chases regular game-time to boost his Socceroos hopes.

Mabil's agent Buddy Farah declined to comment on the situation when contacted by FourFourTwo but it is understood the winger has options.

A-League clubs may be among those options including Mabil's former side Adelaide United.

I bet he would be found out in our National League. While he might have played whenever he had a chance over the years he simply hasnt been training 3-4 times a week since he was about 12, 11 months of the year like our National league players have. He might have some basic skills and technique but he wont have the levels required even for our lowly national league and speed isnt enough to rely on.

Japan great Keisuke Honda is back on the A-League radar, with Melbourne Victory hoping to bring the charismatic playmaker to AAMI Park on a multi-million dollar marquee deal.

https://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/victory-driving-bid-to-snare-multi-million-dollar-honda

Will he have to change his name to Hyundai to get the FFA's marquee fund tho?

Melbourne Victory are all but assured of securing the services of Japanese legend Keisuke Honda for at least next season, while the defending A-League champions have signed experienced German centre-back Georg Niedermeier.

Honda's agent and brother Hiroyuki Honda has been in talks with Victory and Football Federation Australia for some months, and The Age understands the only way the deal will break down is if there are complications with the terms of the multi-million dollar marquee contract.

Niedermeier hasn't played much in the last couple of years. Long term injury? If he's fit it's a great signing.
