Sydney linked with a one year loan deal for Siem de Jong. Hell of a move it it's pulled off

no idea why they're looking at getting him in. Would carve up the league, but they desperately need a wide player on the right. They've got Brosque, Ninkovic and De Silva who are all number 10s, a fourth isn't what they need

Sydney play 2 10's, not wingers. Ninkovic and Da Silva will be the (narrow) 'wide' players. Brosque needs a partner. Would be cool if if's Siem de Jong, but why the heck would Siem de Jong want to play in the A-League?

yes, they play a narrow 4-2-3-1. But the problem is Brosque, da Silva and De jong all play best through the middle. Ninko is brilliant out on the left, but they need someone for the right side. Da Silva will probably get shunted out wide but I really don't think they should rely on that.

He didn't play much last season? Wants to put himself in a shop window for a big money Asian move? Who knows but its a bold transfer target for Sydney and I'm happy to see if it comes off.

Paulo Retre to CCM? Decent sauce on Twitter thinks so. He also says the Dutchies & Baro at CCM have been asked too look elsewhere for clubs to play next season.

Or not. He was right about one of the Dutchies & Baro but not this.

Victory surely favourites now. Such an incredible squad theyve signed up, if they all click then they could be better then the 2016-18 Sydney team

Thomas

Roux Deng Niedermeier Brown

Baena Antonis

Barbarouses Honda Troisi

Toivonen

Bench: Acton Ansell Valeri Ingham Athiu

Not much ability to change the game off the bench, they can't have that much cap left & still need to add at least two u20's to their squad.

How can they afford it... Barbs / Honda / Troisi / Toivonen will all be demanding top coin.

Looks like they will be going with a 21 man squad. 2 marquees & 3 home grown player allowances to pay for their u20s minimum wage. So you are spreading the cap over 16 players. So that is $2.928m / 16, so $183k per player. Broxham has 50% of his wages outside the cap, Thomas 35% & guys like Hope/Ingham/Athiu will be closer to the minimum wage than the 183k. Toivonen will probably be back loaded into a marquee deal for next season, with Troisi coming off contract.

The cap is far more flexible than some clubs make out.

This. I think this perception is acerbated because we always have had to overpay for players. I'm sure Jai Ingham would much rather be on minimal coin for Victory at the top of the table than with us on minimal coin at the bottom

Good summary.

At times like this  I call BS on anyone whom has said we have spent our cap in the last five seasons

It's been done on a smell of an oily rag and it looks like nothing has changed by the signings so far this season which will be our second last unless someone starts spending  some money and quickly

There is a difference between spending your full cap and using all available loopholes, that is the major difference between the biggest clubs and the rest of the league.

So are we in the hunt for him... if he is looking for a move and Australia is an option, then we should be too. We need a  quality striker and he fits the mold.

McCormack would be the signing we need, no doubt. a 10+ goal a season starter.
