Sucks if its true, really crippling your club by removing their marquee.

I thought the point of buying Heart was to extend City's brand and fan base - surely shenanigans like this and playing third fiddle is going to alienate the people who you want to convert to city fans

It seems really weird that if Melbourne pay the majority of his wages, and he stays for 4 games. That means villa is getting 1.25 million a game!

Yep but it circumvents whatever they are trying to circumvent in the US.

It sounds like he will just miss the round 5 game. Still I feel Melbourne City going forward are probably going to get fucked around a bit. They have huge work to do if they want to rival the Victory in terms of support.

This isn't new news, is it? Don't understand why it is being reported as such. He was always going to go back to NYC to help his family settle etc. - was said in his first interview for the club..

Everyone knew that it was just a short stint.

It was originially meant to be a ten game stint but it now appears it might not be.

And if he makes the Socceroos Asian Cup squad as seems likely he won't be available until February.

Reports suggest he will be fit enough to play by January  - he's been injured since before the World Cup.

Note that Villa is a "guest player" according to A-League regulations - not a marquee  -the injured Koren is their marquee.

(A guest player can play up to 10 matches). Villa is only on loan from New York City.

There will be no problem with the financial aspects as City Football Group own both clubs (Melbourne City and New York City - as well as Man City). They'll just juggle things around.

It seems that Melbourne City knew some time ago that Villa was going to have to end his ten game guest stint prematurely but didn't make it public in order to drive season ticket and merchandise sales. Really dishonest.

Can't play until the transfer window opens in mid Jan. By that time it means he probably wouldn't have played a competitive fixture for 6 months due to injury.

Western Sydney local Kearyn Baccus today joined the Western Sydney Wanderers as an injury replacement player for Wanderers striker Brendon Santalab.

Well the rumor was that McGlinchey explicitly told the Mariners that he didn't want to play for Moss - and with some of the odd things he's been saying (dropped from a team because he wasn't greek) you can kind of see why.

By that time it will probably be too too late for Melbourne City.

Former Melbourne Victory player Adama Traore got called up for the Ivory Coast team. Always thought he was a top player. Aussies must be spewing he wasn't eligible even after getting australian citizenship.

Best left back the A-league has ever had (harsh on cassio in his prime) in my opinion

Heart sign Miller as an injury replacement.

[Edit: whoops, its not an injury replacement - "Miller, 33, will be eligible for selection under Football Federation Australia’s National Team Replacement Player rule" ]

Mulvey to be sacked?

Surely not. They are 3 points off the top 6. Brisbane just need to bring in some better imports. The A-League is the sort of competition teams don't dominate. You have a good year and then you fall back into the pack and get ready to go again.

That is pretty much on the money. Remember that MV let go of Ernie because the team did not win the championship the following season? I am pleased the Roar do not have the same stupid attitude. If we do not win the toilet seat I won't be blaming Ernie - in this league there are always other factors at play.

In contrast, when early on Melb Victory thrashed Adelaide in the grand Final (I think 5:1?) Kosmina resigned as Adelaide coach, such was the shock. That doesn't mean Adelaide were bad. It became a one-sided game when Adelaide (and Kosmina) became demoralised, when they were trailing 3:0 well before halftime.  The clash of Kossie with Muscat was hilarious.

Wonder what the odds on Mulvey being sacked first would have been. Seems ridiculous to sack him but everything appears that he has been.

Seems I was wrong and Ryan's Rovers was right:

As for Frans Thijssens, just a "rumour" at this stage, nothing confirmed.

Anyway, wishing all the best to Mulvey. Any thoughts whether their championship last year was due to the good work laid down by Angie previously, or to his own talents?

This is a good blog post (in two parts) that was written earlier in the season:

http://goodluckpunters.wordpress.com/2014/11/08/a-...

Basically stipulates Mulvey inherited a talented but unmotivated squad and managed to motivate them but that he won the championship by such a massive margin mainly because the top clubs were in disarray with lots of coach rotation, etc.
