Yeah makes no sense to drop him based on him leaving the club but after the first 2 goals against Adelaide I'd hope he's been put on notice that AP is close to getting a run, that was some Sunday League stuff.

AP will be in goal for the NZ U22/23s against China U24s.
And of course Sail will be in goal for at least one game for the AWs. Will he share the 2 games with Marinovic?

Anyway is a rare chance to have a look at both Nix keepers.

It’s a game of fine margins. Kosta pops that in, Oli doesn’t gift them a goal, Kraev’s deflection goes in our favor and then we’re storming the keep at Adelaide and roaring into second.

Sasse over Old is an interesting one, but I’d argue that Sasse has been a lot better than we give him credit for. He’s moving the ball well, but hasn’t had anything spectacular stick. His corners are very dangerous, we’re just poor in the air recently and in this game in particular. If he had Stevie Taylor attacking his delivery imo he’d have a couple more assists. He’s hit the post a lot.

I think it’s actually fair to say that Kraev from earlier in the season would have at least scored a brace and maybe if Kosta squared to him a hatty. Possibly his form drop in front of goal cost us more than Sasse.

It’s odd to feel this buoyant after a 5-1, but we were a gnat’s hair away from dominating Adelaide, we just did it to ourselves in the end.

And I don’t think van Hattum is ready to be our impact sub, and I’m not sure why Uffie is persisting with him ahead of Old or Pennington who are much more accomplished footballers and likely to make a greater impact.

How many games did we said the exact thing? All the points we lost when we lead, the embarrassing last minute failure against WU. The game when had 100 shots and could not score single one of them. The dreadful parking the bus 2nd half we all suffered through.
We could be easy second place with a bit of luck, we are not, we are not a top team. It's by no mean a bad season, we are average again, points don't lie. We can hope that we play some great finals and with some luck we progress to the Grant Final. Most likely we got kicked out by some stupid brain farts.

Wonder if he'd play the same style? Would kinda rather we get a manager with a different style tbh.

Surely any would be manager worth their salt wouldn't just play the same system as his predecessor. If Chiefy doesn't have new ideas he wouldn't get the job. I sure as hell wouldn't hire a copycat

Uffie was asked at a recent presser about whether Chiefy could do a job as head coach if he were to leave, which is where those quotes came from. There's nothing new in that article, just your quarterly "Talay to <insert big club here>" speculation piece 🤷‍♂️

The parking the bus has by large worked in our favor I’d say. This is a game without our striker who has been scoring reliable early goals. We played more like we did at the start of the season, exciting, brilliant, unreliable.

Scoring early and holding a lead has worked for us, because we haven’t had any success with playing on the counter when up.

We haven’t been a convincing team- but conversely the way we’ve consistently scored means we might be a better finals team than we’ve been.

I just enjoyed us stringing passes together, playing out of a press and looking like an Uffie team of yore, minus the finishing of Hemed, Davila, Sotirio or Waine. It was oddly a good watch in many ways.

A lot of it could have been Covid related in 2020?? NZ with it's border shut, no home games etc etc. A shark load of uncertainty swirling around. Then in 2021 some hope the ALM seasons would return to normality so Uffie happy to stay at the Nix.

Who knows for sure. But 2020-2021 were some very difficult years for everyone, that we almost forget about now.

perhaps but that doesnt exactly fit the "Uffie had agreed to take over at Melbourne and the nix said no" story - it's certainly no Welnix's way. Unless they were worried about finding a new coach in the middle of COVID. Seems an odd one to some out now.

There was a ton of uncertainty at that time, especially over how much cash clubs would get from the TV rights. We released Taylor, Steinmann & Ball had offers back in England if he was able to get a release (we turned down the request). Uffie probably made sure he had a back up plan in case the club was gonna go on a hiatus during covid.

That 19/20 season still sharks me.

Had that damn flu not been pissed about with in Wuhan we could well have won the minor premiership, if not the whole dam toilet seat.

Instead our trophy cabinet looks like Tottenhams, empty!

Looking at the FA website, it looks like its a tick box exercise to renew for a 3 year period, just need to show you've got an up to date First Aid cert, have a police check done and do five hours of professional development (and presumably pay a fee).

Looks similar to what I had with becoming a Chartered Accountant, sharkloads of work to get it, then to keep it each year you just have to tick a couple of boxes and pay a fee.

As much as I hope he is staying, I don't get the feeling that he's sticking around after the season.

On the latest Podcast Domey confirmed;
- Rob Morrison has had discussions with Uffie since before christmas about extending
- Uffie wants to look for a role overseas (Asia or Europe) so hasn't re-signed
- At this stage Uffie hasn't found a new role (this one was more implied than stated)
- The nix would re-sign Uffie if he wanted to, but the clock is ticking
- Welnix want a coach signed prior to the end of the season
- Welnix have developed a short-list of coaches they are looking at
- The new coach will need to buy into the Welnix long term plan/vision rather than coming in with their own style. Mentioned Kalazic as an example of the club forming to the coaches vision rather than the other way around.

I was a bit surprised Domey was as open as he was I was expecting he would say something along the lines of negotiations are ongoing but I cant say more than that.

Have half the interview to go on my way home from work, but its been great so far, well worth a listen. I'm always impressed with how open Dome is when they get him on the podcast.

Domey talked about "Europe and Asia" and "Overseas" as being where Uffie wanted to go, technically Melbourne is overseas and in Asia, but feels a bit of a stretch.

Having said that, if you're looking for a new job you're never going to be completely open with your existing employer with what you are looking at.

It sounds like the Nix have a hard deadline for when they are going to have next seasons coach signed. If at that date Uffie hasn't got his overseas role but wants to chance his arm Nix will sign someone else and Uffie could end up without a job next season.

Can't see that happening to Uffie if he decides not to stay - he'd be first cab off the rank for any A-League side needing a coach (or just after an upgrade).

Might also mean our chance of keeping Uffie are inversely related to how well we go for the rest of the season as well - have to think he'll be more likely to get an overseas gig with a big end to the season.

Uffie played in Japan in 2008 (Avispa Fukuoka, currently 4th) near the end of his playing career. Fellow Australians Ange Post & Muscat have both won the J League with Yokohama F. Marinos, so Aussie coaches could be a bit flavour of the month there. Muscat is rumoured to be looking at gigs again in Europe. Ross Aloisi is an assistant at Yokohama.

So you'd think Talay would be a chance of getting a gig in Nippon. Ange may even have some useful contacts there for him, as sounds like they talk a bit. The Celtic manager almost sounding like a bit of a mentor for Uffie. But yes a strong end to the ALM season would be handy for his future job prospects.

So, based on that interview Ufuk is looking overseas and not in the A-League but we might force him to go to another club in the A-League because we're not prepared to wait for him. Good on the Nix for being pro-active.

The club might just be treating him like a player that has aspirations to play overseas (not Australia). Equally important when advertising for a new coach that the coach knows the club will support them if they wish to progress up the coaching ladder.

Someone else will know but how many coaches have come to us as their first pro coaching gig? Ufuk was one, obviously.

We've had five permanent full coaches (Herbert, Merrick, Kalezik, Rudan and Talay) two of these were in their first head coach of a pro team role:
Uffie - Previously an assistant, had been head coach of the Aussie U20's
Rudan - Previously head coach of semi-pro sides (syd 58 & Rockdale suns)

There's also Des and Greenie who had acted as interim/caretaker in both cases their first time in charge of a pro-team. If you count them that's four of seven coaches who have had us as their first job.
