It is hard to know what happens behind the scenes, so its hard for an outsider to pinpoint whats wrong.

That's not a strategy. And if it is, it's a shit one. It's more of a vision. Strategy is how to achieve the vision. No wonder they are a clusterfuck if they can't get the basics right.

Sydney have a ton of players off contract. Only 10/23 roster spots filled for next season. Since Carle has been frozen out, it could even be less as they may try to offload him.

Think he would only really be an option as a replacement for Carlos if he decides to take off in a huff. The whole reason he's in trouble at SFC is because he's been forced to play second fiddle behind ADP, filling in at DM etc, so I don't think he'd be keen to come here and play second fiddle to Carlos.
I can see CCM or the Jets being interested in Carle. Ernie has been given the task to lower the teams age, so getting in another 30+ year old attacking mid goes against that. Plus we have Rufer Jnr to groom for that role.
That is a big pile of steaming stuff coming off contract there.
