Outcome of independent Match Review Panel
Thursday, 3 February 2011
The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) - consisting of Barry Such (Chair), Simon Micallef and Alan Davidson - convened to consider the following incidents from Week 25 of the Hyundai A-League:

The incident involving Paul Reid (Adelaide United) in or around the 80th minute of Adelaide Uniteds match against Gold Coast United on Wednesday night. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as the player was issued with a direct red card. The MRP firstly considered an Obvious Error (Red Card) Application by the player. The Obvious Error Application was upheld and, accordingly, the Red Card is expunged from the record of the player and he is not required to serve a sanction.

The incident involving Marcello Fiorentini (Newcastle United Jets) in or around the 62nd minute of Newcastle United Jets match against Melbourne Victory on Wednesday night. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as the player was issued with a direct red card. In reviewing the incident, the MRP found that Marcello Fiorentini committed the offence of "Assault on a Player (e.g. violent conduct when not challenging for the ball)" against Marvin Angulo and proposed a sanction of two (2) matches. This is the minimum sanction for such an offence. The player has until 12:00 noon (AEDT) tomorrow to accept the proposed sanction or refer the matter to a hearing by the FFA Disciplinary Committee.

Both fair calls in my mind. Reids red was a shocking decision. If anything the other guys foot was more dangerous. Fiorentini deserved what he got.

Its no longer a problem.
