Straya - A-League and State Leagues

Who is the biggest A-League journeyman?

Was watching Sydney derby yesterday and saw Topor-Stanley was now playing for WSW. The A-League is only into its ninth season but I make that four clubs he has played for (Sydney, Glory, Jets, WSW).

Is there anyone else with a more impressive record?

Brockie has played for the Knights, Sydney, Fury, Newcastle and Phoenix. Who has more than five?

Depends if you count separate spells at the same club. If so Glen Moss also has five:

Knights, Nix, Tards, GCU, Nix

The term journeyman has nothing to do with how many clubs a person has played.

Someone like Bertos fits the Journeyman definition, has done his "apprenticeship", is pretty good at his job but is not a master craftsman

Journey to me means a long arduous hardworking trip, e.g. Danny Vukovic Perth - Welly - Perth etc

Jade North is at his 4th A-League club but he played for Perth in the Old NSL (Perth Glory, Newcastle Jest, Wellington Phoenix, Brisbane Roar)

Kristian Rees.

To me a journeyman is a player who never achieves more than the average and does so in many places over a long period.

Fuck this stupid game

What about Jason Hoffman? Only two clubs in his 7 seasons but has only played 76 games, 32 of them starting apperances.

*snigger*

Unless it is a new yoof-speak term to mean someone who has played in a lot of different clubs.

No it isn't.

A journeyman is someone who has played for a lot of clubs in his career.

Three for me, and two for them.

That's how I view it as well. He has been around, like you would on a journey.

Ok so I guess we just make our own meaning for journeyman and ignore the common and correct definition !

http://journeyman.askdefine.com/

Professional sportsmen are sometimes called journeymen. It is not a technical or well-defined designation, instead it is generally given to players who are skilled enough to remain in pro sports but not skilled enough to earn themselves a permanent position on a team. Players given this moniker tend to be adept at a particular aspect of their sport, but do not possess well-rounded talent comparable to their more-successful peers. They are traded between or signed by several different teams over their career, sometimes even over the course of a single season, based on the teams' need for a player with a specific talent.

Pretty much on the money I think.

I think of a journeyman as per the common/correct definition.  But I suppose langwitch does change and if sports has a different spin on it then so be it (a bit like "gay" has at least two meanings, one of which is now not much in use).

Actually, I would use journeyman with regards to sports in the same way as I would with conventional use: i.e. someone proficient but not exceptional and of no connection to how many clubs he/she has been signed up with.

Everyone else can kiss my thesaurus.

One often finds the two go hand-in-hand: ordinary players seem to get moved on from club to club, especially in the A-League

From the stuff web page:

Christie confirmed for All Whites

As team prepares to take on Mexico tomorrow morning, coach gambles on journeyman player.
