Straya - A-League and State Leagues

Would you stay loyal?

Bit of a random question but...

With the dispersed nature of the A-league, assuming at some point you migrated across the Tasman would you continue to put the Phoenix above whichever team belonged to your new city? or become a supporter of your new team? since it would be difficult to get back to Welly frequently. (more chances to see away games tho i reckon)

Got me thinking as 3 of my old Phoenix match buddies are now members at Melb Victory and Perth (x2) and now treat the phoenix as their second team.  perhaps as they are all poms its easier to switch allegiances within the A league (they still support the same British club)

Nix would be my number 1. Though I'd probably go along to the local team, make new mates, and vaguely support them.

Hard to say until you actually do it I suppose.

Hell no.  I would find the team that is top of the table and follow them.

Might also join a fan club and get a membership card with my name and everything on it as well.

But would you pay a fee (or not) and then demand transparency?

Grumpy old bastard alert

In this exact situation myself. Phoenix is and always will be my team. Have attended 2 away games so far. Makes you realise how fucken retarded fans of other A-League clubs are.

I'm with Tegal, nix will always be number one but might half follow the local team (but only if they weren't too stabby, blingy or flary).

There are a number of Nix fans who have moved over already ...

I lived in Brisbania (and had done since 2001 when I left Wellyfornia) and went to many Roar games through the early iterations of the A league; though wasn't hugely engaged with fan groups etc as they weren't my "home" club... nobody was, I just enjoyed the football (as I did with other sports) and at Suncorp it was usually a good fan experience, the ocassional over-zealous security gumby aside.

As soon as it became apparent there was going to be a team coming in from Wellington they immediately became my numbero uno... obviously moving back home in Nix s2 helped as well... but yeah - whatever/wherever (thank you Shakira) the Nix will be my number one and no other team can be the same as no other city is my "home" irrespective of where I live... you can take the boy outta Wellington...

I live in Auckland now and you won't find me supporting ACFC - I have a mate who plays for them so I like to see him succeed but still support TW and HBU #coalfacefootball

Fuck this stupid game

Bugger that, if a new city I went to had bouncy castles, face painting, lanyards, fridge magnets and Dane Rumble at half time I would be theirs for life, or at least until a better thing came along *

Ive lived my entire phoenix life overseas. Only managed to get to a handful of games. But there is no one else for me. Ive tired following other teams. But its like drinking warm light beer to get drunk. Its just not worth it.

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

I think the biggest test wouldn't come from leaving NZ (I live in Hamilton so I might as well be in another country). It would be if Auckland got an A-League side. On one hand I'd get to see live football more than the once in a year trip to Napier. On the other hand I'm a huge Nix fan, I don't know if I could truly support another A-league side in NZ. Perhaps I could pull a line from the WSW supporter's guide and just support which ever team is doing best and claim that the team I'm currently supporting is the team that was in my heart all along I just didn't know it.

That's a very interesting point you bring up and potentially a huge issue for having a 2nd HAL licence. I suspect I'm in the minority of football fans in Auckland who does not support the Phoenix so what would all those fans do? Drop the Phoenix and support Auckland, Support the two NZ teams or continue supporting the Phoenix and not the new Auckland team? Also what would Phoenix fans in the 'Tron, Chch, Dunedin, Tauranga etc do? Not likely they'd switch to Auckland.
Thankfully, I could continue to support ACFC in the ASBP.
Very interesting Nonmag.

I think if I were in Auckland, I'd support a team in my own city more passionately than one from Wellington. So I'd still support the nix but I'd support Auckland more and want them to win when the 2 teams play each other.
