60 mins gone and Pink steps up to make it 3-1, we still need 4 more goals though.
League Banter - The Matchday thread
Well it finished 3-1, and we miss the sponsor goal by 4 goals scored.
We did manage to finish 12th which is an improvement on last season's 14th place finish though.
Finished 4th so now I have playoffs! Both first and second are inactive so does that mean I'm going up no matter what?
finished outside the top four, oh well time to make the quad better and win the league

Only one team gets automatic promotion I believe, the rest go through the playoffs, so I'd say it just gives you a more advantageous draw
just looked at the inactive teams in my division looks like my official finishing has been improved to third, so I have a play off game to look forward too, hopefully a home one cos I could use the $$$$
Great way to end the year, a 3-2 win over a team I usually lose to, despite missing my best player means I end in sixth for the season, just a pity there are no inactive teams above me! A full 20,000 fans turning up means I'm now well on my way to making huge money each season, which will be necessary for if I ever get up to the challenging Div 2.
I almost have a 20000 seater and it full every home game and I'm still broke every week, I need someoen to offer me a ridiculous sum for one fo my players.

Okay then. I'll offer you $1 for your best defender...

I'll raise that to 50 cents...
haha that's pushing ridiculous to the wrong end of the scale.
so play off game tonight, 2nd vs 3rd.....opposition is man for man very much better than my guys, but by some amazing piece of "luck" 1'm 1 up after 10
35 minutes and now 1-1
and it ends 3-1, oh well I stay in kiwi league 1, for now at least
Tegal and TTU are both in the playoffs to determine promotion/relegation into the Premier League, Tegal is up 1-0, while TTU is at 0-0 but with a red card. Good luck to both.
Cheers. And thanks for the update, am at work so can't really check the game, but can check forums occasionally.
3-0 Tegal, nothing to worry about - does this mean you retain your spot or is there another game? Askew, Mitea and York with the goals.
Unfortunately TTU has conceded twice in three minutes to fall down 2-0, unlucky red card.
You can now select another player favorite position for the mere sum of 100 pro days.
This is an unbelievably terrible change. They've been slowly moving away from the whole "you don't need pro to be able to compete etc" thing slowly for a while now, but this is a major movement away from that.
For the first time in a while its actually made me consider whether it's even worth playing. The game has also become fairly unbalanced at the high end (ridiculous prize money for international cups etc), and this will only make it worse.
Reckon if it weren't for you guys and our fever league, I'd probably lose interest pretty fast.
Had a great night all round though.
3 playoff games.
Won the relegation playoff in NZ, so stay in the premier league next season, if I win on sunday.
Won my promotion playoff in Australia, so am promoted to league 1 if I win on sunday.
Won my oceania promotion playoff (after sneaking in on the last game of the season), so am now playing to be in the Oceania Premiership on sunday.
originally thought it was the old system of a one game playoff, so got excited. but just read the announcement about it being the first round. I do like this system better, but its inconvenient this season!

the change itself is ok, but 100 pro days is over the top!
This is terrible, it's hard enough to play without pro days (not having a B team being the main problem) that it's getting to the point where the best TM players would struggle without pro days.
It almost feels like cheating, just changing somebody's position, what a joke. 115 people in favour, 1403 against, says it all really.
Agreed.
It's funny, people either don't like it for that reason, or like the idea but don't like it because of the cost. Pretty unpopular all round.
I pulled a 5* potential RB today, I thought hmmm maybe I'll train him up and see how he blooms - potential to make him any 5* player I want..... it seems kinda wrong.
Precisely.
And if you pull a 5*, scout him and find his specialty is tackling - spend some pro and make him a defender. If you find his specialty is finishing - make him a striker.
So wrong.
This will be the death of all DML's and OMR's, annoying positions will no longer be used by those who can afford it.
I don't mind OM's that can play M too
I actually think positions like that are underrated.
If you need a defensive boost but don't mind giving away a little attack wise on the wings, DML and DMR are great. My theory is they split their stats/influence/whatever between the 2 (DL and ML for example for a DML)
Playing for promotion now against a much stronger side
Parking the bus?
I have 3 games going on now, 1 for relegation and 2 for promotion. Will be stoked if I can stay in nz premier league and get promoted to Oceania premier league. I forgot to set tactics for Oceania game though, so hopefully the side I'm playing aren't too strong.
Once again, I'm at work so can't watch these games haha.
How come you have to win two games to stay up? Seems a bit unfair.
I am just going with my usual balanced approach. Our sides aren't that much different on second look and they have just lost a player to injury as well which is going to help me.
0-0 at half time
Probably my best season yet. Scored a total of 85 goals and only conceded 25.
The two big stand out players for me were:
Martin Duff
The 35 year old played 33 games scoring 17 times and providing 17 assists. He finished 11th on the golden boot table and 3rd on assists. He is a Peow FC legend with 182 games for the club, managing 85 goals and 58 assists in that time.
Duncan Abbott
After playing for the reserves for the past 5 seasons he joined the first team. Playing a total of 32 games he scored 21 times and managed 5 assists. He finished 6th on the golden boot and was 11 goals ahead of any other U21 player. Hoping for great things from him.
I've been relegated to the championship after a 2-1 loss. Well gutted.
Also lost 3-2 in Australia.
But did manage to get into the Oceania premiership with a 2-0 win, so its not all bad.
Well new season is here, and a bright future has dawned for the Fafeful as the Old Boys club move on and we see some young blood into the starting XI.
Tonight we face "B - Manchester United" at our newly refurbished 20,000 seat stadium, AD Fafe have let their starting line-up leak early:
Skovajsa, Frolov, Syred, Atkins, Morrison, Atkinson, Wilson, Dee, Vicelich, Pink, Leilei
Peow FC are back in the championship and we kick off against another recently promoted side. Legia Kaiapoi are quite a good team managing to top their group last season and averaging a whopping 3.8 goals a game. Hopefully the home advantage will give us the start to the season we need.
Peow FC players to watch:
Noah Batt: He is a 23 year old striker who was acquired towards the end of last season. Will be looking to force his way into the starting line up and break up the Barnes and Abbott pairing that worked well last season.
Mike Kirkby: Whilst he is only 17 and still in the reserves, he has the potential to be the next big thing out of the Peow FC Academy. He will be looking to develop quickly to replace the aging Weiling.
Two pre-season signings to add some depth to the squad, Stefan Axelsson joins the squad as long-needed left midfield cover, good crossing and finishing means he'll be helpful on attack, while Bruce Rapp becomes the third choice CB, and possibly the starting right back depending on how he matches up with my other two 3.5 star potential RB's. Means I can sell off a 2.5 star player, slowly improving and still with plenty of money in the back to perhaps splurge on a young striker.
main team has the basecity bambinos - b team to basecity bombers, beaten them before and hope to kick off the new season with a win
It took a terrible 32 minutes, but AD Fafe have their first goal of the season scored by Richard Vicelich from the right wing.
0-0 at half time...Looking fairly even at the moment
Well my team appears to be dominant, but still only lead 1-0.
So this is a B team with "No Manager 4" in week 1 of the season, does that mean they will be unmanaged all season? Oh dear...
1-0 lets see if I can hold it now
Nice Peow, you can bring it home.
Leilei adds to our tally and it is 2-0 with 20 mins to go.
