Finished 3rd in my Championship group so I guess I'll be going into the playoffs. Also, I've already turned a profit this season and I acheived all my sponsor goals so I'll be getting more cash soon too
League Banter - The Matchday thread
Very mediocre season had by me. Started off well in the top 4 for a while then gradually dropped down after a string of defeats, ending up in the relegation playoffs before finishing one above them.
I think I've missed my top 6 goal. Bonus is that I managed to sell off a few academy products which has kept my finances in tact compared to previous seasons while still growing the stadium.
Key next season will be to find a formation that works.
looks like I'll be finishing 4th after the inactive teams get removed, might make a play for promo in the playoff games.
lost my play off game so I stay where I sm, really annoyed as I should have taken that league.....oh well this seaspn fer sure!
First season in championship, did okay to finish 12. Won first playoff but then had 2 players sent off in the second to go down. But looks like i am still in championship so not sure what happened there but not complaining
Poor start from my lads. Lost 4-1 against a newly promoted side who we probably should have beaten.
Easy 2-1 win for me. Another new formation, good possession but the 1 striker is probably hindering goals. In other news I finally sold another academy product for 23mil. My YA has probably netted me 100+ mil now, not to mention a full starting IX. Pretty happy!
6-0 win for my lads. One of my strikers scored 5
Lost to SKC little uns who have some epic youth players.
66% possession. 22 shots to 8. Opposition had a man sent off after 20 mins.
I lost 3-0
Do people still play this game?

Came 4th in my league. Won both play off games. Does that mean I'll be promoted? Good season overall and the best part is I broke even finance wise and only had to sell one of my 4.5* potential players to do so.

Yes winning both games is all you needed to do to get promoted.
Not sure what your team/league is, but being promoted is always a big step up.
Make sure you have enough seats for your new fans for the extra $'s they bring
Good luck next season, except vs me ;)
I came 2nd in my group and won both my playoff games so I'm back to the premiership this season. Got absolutely dicked last time a couple of seasons ago but my team is better now.. still going to get dicked but I might win a game this time. Maybe.

Ahhhh cool, I guess. I shared a similar experience to the guy above me but it was in the Championship but also my team is a lot better and may have to bring in some reinforcements for the first time in many seasons, as I have gone down the develop YA path.

Yes a couple of good wins sees you in the premiership.Yes you got a hiding last time but hope for better. Maybe 14th will see you stay up.
Did you find last time you took a hit financially in the premiership? After all, it's pretty hard to get those end of year bonuses when newly promoted.

Whats your teams name?

last time I was up too I only had 2 players who were 4.5* or better, now I have 6 so should be a bit more competitive on that basis I think
I'm Onehunga Town AFC. Happy to say all my players are YA graduates.

Yep premiership is a 4.5*+ zone. 6 is pretty good & 7 other new teams for you to beat:). Good luck. If you can nail down 12th or above you should be OK as your team should't have any problems beating promotion wannabes come seasons end.

Considering what happened last time I don't blame you for being a little shy but your teams in much better shape this time.
Dropping games I'm sure is something that happens. Can't blame people. I've done it once, with my Cameroon side where there is a huge difference between premier and league two and just because I could play with the second division was no prep for premier and went straight back down costing about $50m. Bit hard to swallow when ones trying to pay for a very expensive YA that brings only rubbish players ;)
Think there should be a promo bonus to reward people

Yeah you have a nice little squad of home grown.
I'm thinking about down grading my YA and save $m's per week in maintenance and players who will never cover their wages paid with a sale.
I have two other sides with high YAs and I'll see how they go.
Maybe give it one more season to see how it goes. Although another few weeks of crap youth pulls and I might bale on NZ YA, we'll see :)
Yeah I've had 2-3 season's of very decent pulls (plenty of 4.5*) but I ran into the similar issue of having lvl 10 YA and Training. Then I knocked training back to lvl 6 and managed to break even two seasons in a row with sales of 1-2 decent players to supplement.
But that's been detrimental to the development of the players I have and this season I'm going back up to lvl 7 Training.
I'm looking to sign a decent CB or MC with good tackling as I'll need to sure up my defense more I reckon.
BTW I'm in Championship Group 3
yep, came 2nd in my league, lost in the 2nd round game for promo! This year!

I'll give my YA one more season, otherwise down to Lvl 2.
You do look a bit light in defence, bit like the Nix ;)
I've sent you a challenge to see how we go.
I was in demostion playoffs last season so no great team, yet.
I'm in Championship Group 4 Atheos Aotearoa
A boring old nil all draw haha. Funny all 4 of my defenders got yellow cards! Nice attacking midfield you have there.
Close game. Yeah your backs are working as a team lol.
Wanna sell your keeper? ;)
I was thinking about bringing in a 4.5* DC but after that game it will be 4.5* F instead.
It will wait 'till later in the season as I'm not keen on buying players now when prices are so high

And I agree about the promo bonus. It's stupid that getting promoted issue a negative thing financially. You might get more fans but unless you're super confident that you will stay up it might not be worth spending the money on your stadium to capitalise on it.
My YA and TF are both 8* which is affordable and a bit of a bet hedging exercise. I did see someone did a chart of the long term probability of 4.5/5* players at each YA level and the extra cost of a 10 * YA didn't seem worth it to me .
You are in a lot better shape than last time.
Two more seasons for me in the NZ Championship.
I have some 4* players who should crack 4.5*'s by then and will have some extra all important REC. That and buy a young 4.5* each season should be good for a go. But then the games developing and I might find 4.5's are championship players, so two seasons become ten :)
Good luck with your premiership season...../s.
Just when I thought all was lost my team managed to score a couple at the death to snatch a 2-2 draw away at one of the stronger teams in my group!

Very attacking at 80mins if down by 2 for the win (or draw)
