(seperate thread made to spare LF1s league table thread ). Very interested to see what people think or feel about this. Basically i see 3 scenarios as ive already posted in the (hijacked) league table thread. They are:

3 scenarios:

A) the fixture list was done first,we had a home game on january 30th. ACDC then comes in,stadium gives us the boot. Poor form.

OR

B) ACDC had already booked the stadium for january 30th. The nix say they dont mind to the FFA,if you give us a home game on that date we'll take the opportuniuty to take the nix to palmy/chch. Poor form.

OR

C) ACDC have already booked the stadium. The nix ask the FFA if they can NOT schedule us on this weekend at home. FFA say tough sh*t,schedule us a home game then anyway, nix are forced to take game to chch/palmy. I find this one unlikely, but if true, then poor form

Not good any way i see it happening.

EDIT: TonyP,answers?

Its 2 actually. One of those being fair enough in being moved away, the other not so. Still 2 home games away from the fortress that is the ROF. Not to mention 2 games the fans here dont get to see.

Mariners have had to that already with two games in Canberra. Granted that's a sort of civic duty thing and they must have agreed to it with FFA, but by no stretch of the imagination can they be regarded as home games.

Melbourne had similar issues with AC/DC at Etihad, but the AFL CEO cracked it, not the FFA...

I am pretty sure that the stadium was booked well before the gig was announced.  I'd assume that if they are chasing such an event, they'd be able to black out that date.  Two AC/DC concerts would pull a lot of money for the stadium.

I'm not sure why that weekend could not have been an away game though.

I think that at the time it was announced, TP said something about how he didnt want to take the games away but had no choice so was trying to make the most of it obviously

If it drums up support for a Christchurch franchise, that can only be a good thing.

Seriously, we had this argument when the draw came out - search back for those old threads - everything seemed to have been said that needed to be.

um, so heaven forbid we lose the 2 "home" games does that mean our unbeaten home run would end or is it just games at the RoF that count as unbeaten home run?

I think its fair to say if we win in plamy we will count it, but if we lose we will claim we are unbeaten at the ROF

Haha so true 2nd best .

Yeah i believe the nix management just made the most of it and didnt even try get the FFA to give us an away game that weekend, making the most of it to take another one of our 2 extra games away.

Guess i just want an explanation as to why? If TonyP said he couldnt avoid it,that means the fixures were made before ACDC booked and we got booted by the stadium (which doesnt seem to be the case as the fixtures had as playing at chch in the first place). or the FFA said no to giving us an away game that weekend, which seems odd. Which is why im likely to believe scenario B,which is also the one that would annoy me the most.

However... it is a smaller stadium and if there is a good travelling army from Welly and the Napier chapter heading over, plus all the local Palmy Feverites, it should make for a more intense atmosphere for supporters.

That might help our lads and intimidate the Bling players (they'll still be in shock after having to pass over the cattle bars going through immigration at Palmy Airport).Junior822009-11-10 00:29:17

Well, I think the games in Palmy and CHCH will be considered neutral grounds, I can't see how they can compare to playing as 'home' games at the Ring of Fire.

Palmy and CHCH are in no way home grounds, just like playing in Auckland wouldn't be considered a home ground.

Neutral grounds != Home grounds.Ard Righ2009-11-10 13:43:23

Mmmmm, even if they are "neutral" the crowds are mainly phoenix fans making it more home than away.

It obviously some stadium decision, since the ACDC gig can be relocated to maybe the Basin Reserve or some other place that can have , parking, security stuff etc that can be done.

FMG stadium in Palmy has an 18k capacity - an 8-10k crowd in there would look good.

Its only a stadium decision if the fixtures were made, and the stadium booked for the game, before ACDC came along. Otherwise if ACDC were in first, theyre hardly going to bump them just because the FFA have scheduled the nix to play there. Id have thought ACDC wouldve booked it miles ago to be honest? Making it a nix or FFA decision.

And yeah definetly more of a home crowd than away, but its not the ground we've been unbeaten at for so long, and not a ground the players are used to playing at,at all. Taking away (in my opinion) most of the home advantage.

Agree mostly. But I think a solid partisan crowd is still a big factor.

I actually like the idea of going to a different venue as a fan. Sort of a Clayton's away match (or a Clayton's home match) - get the buzz of going elsewhere and seeing nix colours en masse, but none of the feel of heading into opposition territory.

I am sure that it would look to the players to be much more close to the crowds and less empty seats. I hope that the marketing promotion in Palmy is going to move in full swing. It would be disappointing if the local crowd don't turn out in numbers. If the AWs gets to the World Cup finals, then the crowd number would be fairly good as people will catch wind of the football fever.

Manawatu has a pretty good football base, but the flip side is that on 12 Dec there might not be a lot of scarfies left in "knowledge city" that might pad out numbers.

Just booked our motel today and a lot of the cheaper rooms for families have all gone for that night. still seem to be a fair number of twin rooms left.

No international flights to Palmy any more so no customs. I'm guessing they'll have to come to Wellington and bus up, or fly up

That's good - if they fly up they'll also have the ignominy of having to pay to get out of Palmy airport! (on a domestic flight)Junior822009-11-12 23:38:12
