What I understand from the article with Tony P in the latest 'In the Nix' is that we are aiming to get a youth squad set up in the NZFC next year. This is an intersting development. Obviously FFA have told us to bugger off in regards to having a youth team in the A-League youth league.
So how will this affect our youth team? It's a shame they won't be playing week in week out against other A-League up-an-comers but at least they will be getting game time against reasonable opposition.
What about the transfer rules? How will we be able to have a team in the NZFC when we are an Aussie team? And the players will need to get some kind of special dispensation to play in a NZ league won't they?

If the scenario happened I would feel a little sorry for TW. There's enough trouble getting people to matches as it is, without having more competition.

I'm not sure Wibblebutt,
my guess would be that the Youth League would be a club on his own, at least technically. In truth it will be funded, controlled etc by the Nix, but it would be a brand new franchise, say Palmy or Invercagill or something like that.
Would be interesting to see what happens. I think it's vital for us to have a youth league and the OZ's are proving themselves real arseholes by not allowing us to have a team.
In the end, even if we are not an Oz team, we pay our subs, we have a franchise which brings money to the FFA, so I don't see why we couldn't have our own Youth team..

The FFA never said we can't have one, they just said they won't pay for it.

I think it'll be good for TW playing against a nix team it'll be like a local derby and you may find some people will get a long to their other games as well.
But would it not diminish the nzfc's standing as a competition if it had a reserve team in it?
and fair enough if the FFA dont want to fund it, NZF should as it'll be hopefully kiwi lads being developed in the team.

I don't think so. I think even HappyTed would agree that A-league is of much higher standard than the NZFC, an it is not so unusual to have reserve teams playing in lower divisions in Europe (certainly true of Spain and Germany).
In fact, there was an absurd situation in Spanish Segunda Division a few years back when the Atletico Madrid first and reserve teams were both playing in the division, and the reserves were doing better for a while as well.
So I don't think this would be a massive issue, although there are certainly a few other things that would need to be ironed out.

I think i red Tony P saying in an interview that they wouldn't be interested in the o-league (or said something similar) so assuming thats the case and if they won the NZFC i guess the next teams would go????
a lot of if's there
a lot of if's there

I Read this a while ago Tony P said if they did do well they would probably waive the right to get into the O League

The advantage to us would be to play our players who don't get game time so they are match fit when called up for the first team. Us playing in the NZFC is not about winning the league but developing our players plus some youngsters who would be added to the squad to make up the numbers. Lots of work still to be done before it is signed off.

So if you did win it you would waive the right to get into the O-league?
Correct. We will not be eligible for the O League.

they could have the youth team playing in a curtain raiser before nix home games. would surely increase crowd nmbers to nzfc games?
and the youth phoenix team playing away from wellington - would be an attraction to fans to go to a game - I think it would be good for crowd numbers and good for the league.

If the reserve 'Nix win the competition how will you get around devalueing the route to CWC qualification for Oceania?
thats more an emotional issue I guess for the NZFC clubs and the OFC. Though having the Phoenix team in the competition should raise the standard of play, and games. It would also create a valuable link between the 'Nix and the local game.
As Valeo said though in the other thread, we couldn't sign Siggie because of the two transfers a season thing. How would this work out with players from the youth squad effectively changning confederations each time they get a call up?

So this is going to be like what the big Spanish clubs do by having a reserve team in the lower leagues? Like Real Madrid have Real Madrid Castilla, Baracelona have FC Barcelona Atletic. I mentioned this last season I seem to remember.
I think it's a cracking idea and I would be more interested in checking out "lower league" football over here.
