Just read on the four four two website that a club gets 100K from fifa for having a player bound for the world cup on its books. Is this true? Do the nix get 600K for 6 players?

News to me but I hope it's fact.

If it is the Nix should sign up Baz and Jimbo and make it 8.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Yeah would be great for the club.

Just doing the maths (if Ive done it right). 23 players per team, times 32 teams, equals 73.6 million from fifa. Seems rather generous

Dont you think that either Team Wellington or Petone and Miramar could do with the 100K

I hope that's true.  If it is every NZ player should loan themselves to an NZFC team or the Phoenix to help raise a bit of money for the game here.  And Smeltz should leave Gold Coast (if he hasn't already) just to keep money out of Clive Palmers fat wee hands.

Never heard anything about it though.

Give it to the Phoenix.

Would be awesome. 100K would almost mean the world to an NZFC club, and the Phoenix would warmly welcome upwards of half a mill. Whether this is true or not is another story...

Yes, this was on thr news today. So the Nix should get at least $700000. Good one.

I just saw this Fifa letter stating they are offering $40M US to clubs:

http://www.fifa.com/mm/01/05/72/11/circularno.1186-participationofclubinthebenefitsofthe2010fifaworldcupsouthafrica.pdf

I hope the club put in their application by the deadline back in June? And I wonder if the likes of Gold Coast and Central Coast did too?

In the detail it indicates the payments will also be passed on to the club the player was registered with in the 2 years prior to the last game played at the Cup...this may mean Smeltz and other former 'nix AWs may end up sending a pro-rata payment to the Nix too. Any lawyer or Tony P want to look into this?

My take on this is that we'll get a cut from Smeltz, Moss, and possibly Spoonley/Christie and maybe Old if he squeeks in on the 2 year criteria.

I dont believe it

It sounds too good to be true.  I won't be believing anything until Tony P says something.

So according to that document you get USD 1,600 per day your still in the tournament. Starting two weeks before opening match. How many days you are involved depends on what group you are in... but they'll maybe get a total of around 27 days payment per player even if we don't qualify. 27 x 1600 = USD 43,200 for a player we've had the last two years.

Depending on the date Smeltz / Moss actually transferred, we'd get a bit under half of that for them I think. I suppose doing this would make sense so players couldn't just get bought the day before the world cup so the club could cash up.

Edit: I don't know if any of this is true, but that document is on Fifa's website.... seems to be so clubs sign a bunch of stuff which gives fifa power over them.

There is some money as per what the FIFA letter says. Not sure how much and when but it would be welcomed. Tony P2009-11-17 10:12:09

Imagine $100k to a club like Petone (actually more if you include Andy Barron who transfered to Miramar). That would be huge.

Its no longer a problem.

Haha, whoops!

"The Total per player is distributed on a pro rata basis to the clubs with which the player was registered".

Not sure how the registration stuff works in these cases but it would seem fair to me for them to share the money some way.

Edit: though I wonder if these leagues being amateur would stop them from taking these payments??

i thought the FIFA payout was in lieu of compensation for wages etc, so amateur clubs who don't pay players would get nothing.

That FIFA letter doesn't really mention that it's for wage compensation. Talks more about sharing the benefits / development blah blah. It actually says that the money is "partly" used for youth and development. Though I think FIFA are just trying to protect their interests by getting the clubs to sign that they won't sue them / cause controversies about their players at the World Cup / comply with what FIFA want with releasing players etc....

Not really sure what the story is, but the news said that Gold Coast got $100.000 because of Smeltz playing for the AW.
