To be fair I'm not saying his history makes him the best - he was an old man (in footballing terms) when he played for us......I'm saying even as an old man, he was still the best player to play for any of the 3 incarnations of an NZ team in Aussie

Here's a hard one - who was the worst Kingz player ever? So many to choose from.....but I have a particular dislike of Stu Riddle, who would try and control the ball with his back to the oppositions goal yet somehow manage to play the ball to our own keeper.....

(Looking at that list, part of me is thinking "shark, shark, shark" and another part of is thinking "who"? Who the hell was Vinko Buljubasic? He played 7 matches, so I presume I saw him in the flesh for say 3 of those being matches.....)

I still have so much nostalgia for the first 2 seasons of the Kingz. Wynton still had it when they got him the ball but (as I vaguely remember) wasn't mobile enough. I quite liked Dennis Ibrahim as well.

And then Sky fudgeed the whole thing up...

@Rusty Dunks were the Kingz affiliated with Chelsea?
I know the Knights used to have links with Charlton Athletic (had their logo on the Knights kits) but that's the first I've heard of Chelsea and Kingz.

Yeah they did, I think (think!) the Kingz even had the Chelsea badge on their shirt sleeve for just under a season. I remember having a chat/meeting with CT over a muffin in Manukau, and he was telling me about his meeting with Ken Bates and how blown away he was.....I recall the idea was that young Chelsea players would come here to get 1st team experience, and that CFC could cherry pick the best NSL talent (so why the Kingz, you ask? No idea, I reply). I don't think anything came off it, and it fell over pretty quickly

Alright Dave? Best time with DRX/Hard News - I just landed a new job, and they sent me down to Wellington for training for a week. The place in Wellington had offices on 2 floors. On Friday, I caught up with Dave in a pub (quelle surprise!) and watched the Round the World boats come in - I told the people on one level at work I was on the other level, and vice versa. Good times.

Just watched the Kingz v Marconi game at Westpac from 16 March 2001 - It was the only Kingz game I ever got to (I was living in London at the time) and I was certain Rufer scored, but then I also though he shot from a lot further out! But it was Harry Ngata who scored after the keeper only parried Rufers shot

I just had to check out the fan clip. HN, you have hardly aged a day, still the optimist even now and that is a good thing.

Have gone for a "Wollongong at home" theme this week - 2 games from Season 1 that were 2 rounds apart, but fascinating for different reasons; some epicWynton from Season 2; and Andy Vlahos actually scoring a goal in Season 4.

Fudge there are some names in there that make me lol and cringe simultaneously.

There is also the ever-present drone of the Fred/Dewy commentary. Have they really been it for 10+ years for NZ. No wonder nobody watches.

Wasn't Dewhurst back then - Gordon Irving with Ricki Season 1, then a mixture of Gordon or Fred from that point on...  

I must have got Gordon and Dewy mixed up.
