INTER Milan midfielder Luis Figo has confirmed he will leave the club after months of speculation about his future.

"I have made a difficult decision and I continue to think the same way. I have decided to leave top-level football," he was quoted as saying on Inter's official website after the champions won 1-0 at Messina today.

"I have always been happy at Inter, and I would stay if it depended just on my feelings. It's the question of the moment.

We will see. The important thing is to do well until the end of the season."

Reports in January said Figo would join Saudi Arabia's Al Ittihad on an 18-month deal in July but the Portuguese failed to comment on his future destination today.

Inter have lobbied hard to keep the 34-year-old at the San Siro as he has helped them claim two league titles in two years at the club.

no chance mate. He wouldnt come. He would go play with the camels in the desert and earn millions neday over a league. Other players coming to the end of there career that may be interested are perhaps Teddy Sheringham, Andy Cole. Maby a loan spell for a few games of Alan Shearer would be awesome. And hopefully Phoenix dont waste there time with Christie caz hes average nothing special at all. Bring some italians, greeks brazilians to the club. Just look at Melbourne.

I can understand the reasons, but folks should stop obsessing on 'big name' players.  The standard of the A-League is such that an 'average' Brazilian like Daniel will be outstanding in this league - and as an 'average' Brazilian he will be well within the salary range of the Phoenix.

Frankly - Daniel will do more this season than Juninho would.

You'd be far better off going for 4 'unknown' Brazilians and saving a small fortune in wages, than going for names like Aloisi, Figo, Juninho, etc.

The best players in last season's A-League were Fred (completely unknown) and Kevin Muscat (who only came home because he wasn't wanted at Millwall).  It only takes a little class and a lot of experience to do damage in this league.
