we played absolutely sh*te. our defence looked like a shambles
when your boys where crossing em in from wide areas.
daniel is a star.. i know its early but you better do what
ever you can to hang on to the bloke.. great last goal from daniel,
and je was the one that set up smeltz who pretty much had the goal
fed to him by daniel.
cov looks slow, ferrante is excellent in the centre, and i
dont rate aloisi much- same old wrong aloisi!
im not sure of the names of which defenders but the ones who
played in the centre where solid.
for us, allsopp was a shocker, and was more of a liability. we
where pretty much playin with 10 men! carlos played to far up
forward which is why missed a link between midfield and
attack.
overall though, im very happy with wellington. deffenetly a
different side to last year in terms of quality on the pitch. good
luck against newcastle...and i dont think we will get the same
scoreline come round one. we will smash ya ;)
I was at the game and was VERY impressed with Daniel. Glad we have him signed for 2 years - set up the first goal with a perfect pass from a free kick that caught Victory napping and the 2nd goal was just pure brilliance. Was also impressed with Smeltz, Ferrante and Lochhead.
I was the only one cheering at the phoenix goals - no suprise
there!
Oh yeah, Carlos Hernandez was a bit of a fatty it looked like.
Will need to do a lot of work to be ready for the first game.
Thompson was impressive as usual, every time he got the ball
something happened.
The major thing that stuck out to me was our fitness. Ricki
has obviously worked the boys hard because they are equal if not
better fitness wise than Melbourne at the moment. Defence was a bit
shaky though - noticed Clebs wasn't playing?? I mightve just been
blinded by sh*tty Australian beer though.
Oh yeah - the ref was SHOCKING. Both ways. Terrible stuff -
kept stopping the game and restarting for no reason.

Congrats on the win ... WP totally deserved it and had by far the
best chances. They controlled the whole game and Herbert's tactics
worked a treat.
I am really impressed with Daniel. He created the first goal
with brilliant vision and scored a wonder goal that would have been
a goal of the season nominee if it was during the season proper.
Dribbled past 2 or 3 MV players from the side edge of the box and
blasted it to the roof of the net.
I reckon WP will be serious finals contenders. Hope you guys
will give football a big boost in NZ !

team. The Kingz were a bit different....Still wearing their kit

lol i'm happy for the bloke. did really well, but with brebner
and muscat in the heart of our midfield he would never have got
game time.
Better for the league as well for him to be playing football than sitting on the bench behind those guys. Sounds like injuries curtailed his season a bit as well last year Melbourne Fan?

Keeping those two undercover until Round 1 and then we will
thrash melbourne. 
awesome result! even better that our Brazilian friends were kept
under wraps. Every one will be surprised this season with the
quality of the phoenix! I cannot wait to see highlights of the
game. does anyone know where I can see them before the other come
out on sbs.com.au? ohh... and does anyone know the
lineups both teams were playing?
p.s Stoked that daniel had a good game, he is great! from anyone that has seen the game, what was his goal like?

yeh, by the time he was fit and ready we had already formed a
team that would win the league. its hard for any player to crack
into a winning team. the problem was though last year when we did
give him a chance to impress he wasnt that impressive. i suspect
that had to do with the lack of match fitness he has as he sat on
the bench most of the time. but good luck to michael, i hope he
does well.

Anyone know what kind of injury Clebs has? I thought he was marked down to play - was disappointed when I only saw whiteys defending!

Hamstring according to my memory of the media stories, looked
like a knee injury when he went down.
hopefully he'll be back when your here for the Melb game
fans here seem pretty divided re his merits - Me and ( at
least Cosimo) rate him as a character and a player
