Does anybody know when this is likely?

Probably when we actually have a team.

Thing i've been wondering is how a later season start date is going to affect foreign teams visiting the A-league for pre-season games - if they're still going to come in July, it's going to be a bite anti-climatic, isn't it?

Didn't know where to put this, but season start could be 8th October

Sooo far away
Really don't understand this starting later business. It's pretty obvious NRL and AFL don't really affect the A-League's crappy crowds anyway..

Perfect timing - after the All Blacks get eliminated in the pool round, Kiwis will need a team to cheer for. Why not the Phoenix?

Perth want another club to play Celtic. Would we be keen?

Not sure if Celtic would be a huge drawcard here to be honest. I think there will be out and out caution given the crowd that failed to appear for Boca Jrs, so unless it is again no-risk for CCF, i would probably rule it out.

I would have thought Celtic woud be better known here being a British club. I'd definitely go. Remember the weather for the Boca game last year was crap and we still got around 10k.

Celtic would pull in a bigger crowd than Boca Juniors, absolutely no doubt about it.
Alas, game seems to be going to Melbourne isn't it?

Are you seriously suggesting that a business plan for an pre-season event relies on walk-up crowd, therefore good weather- in July, in Wellington ?
Not so sure about the feasibility of this one myself- depends who will be wearing the risk.

The difference between this and Boca is that I suspect the club would have to pay for this, whereas Boca was a set fee TO the Phoenix.
In our current state we're unlikely to be taking any punts on a low chance of return.

Gorman confirmed that the next A-League season would kick off in October and end with a grand final on April 20.
There will be 27 round-robin games for each club instead of 30, and midweek fixtures have been reduced from 30 to 10.

Yup, agreed. I don't expect a big ticket club pre-season, this year, at least.

It would good if we played one of the ASB premiership teams, perhaps Auckland City?

IMO we should play preseason against as many ASB Prem sides as we can because irrespective of results, it would definitely give people from all around NZ a chance to see the Nix play live, and hopefully even build a stronger fan base by engaging the community that way.

They usually do play Youngheart, Hawkes Bay and Team Wellington plus a Canterbury selection which is usually a re-inforced Canterbury United although the different season windows have made it more difficult. Travel costs make some of the other sides a bridge too far.
Another year of the ASB Challenge would help though.

There are also the mid-week pre-season games against local clubs, typically at Porirua park.

If we play ACFC pre-season at Kiwitea St would that count as our Auckland game?

Fantastic- like the later ending. If that was to become the norm I wouldn't be unhappy (in fact I'd be very happy by George!).
When are season tickets on sale (not now please - still recovering from Christmas spending)?

Midweek games in Dec & Jan makes a lot of sense. The article also mentions there will be 1 round played in regional centres, so every team gets 13 home games this time around. If that means that for us it will be 12 home games + CHCH, and Auckland being our regional game I would be fine with that.

That's what's being claimed anyway. Sorry you lost your football club, but here have a game to watch between two other teams.
This is what a guy from 442 is claiming: Heart will play in Morwell, Cental Coast will host in Canberra, Brisbane in Townsville, Sydney in Wollongong and Victory in Tasmania.

Heart playing in Morwell must be a joke, it looks a tiny place. I would think Geelong might be more likely.
Canberra, Tasmania and Wollongong should be dead certs, playing a game in Townsville would be rubbing salt into the wounds.

Had a team in the NSL, has a very good granstand - seats about 1500. I went out to Morwell, just to visit the ground
FFA will either drop us off in the gong or Canberra.
I hope the fixtures are released before the 11th May, some great sales on atm
