I'm just posting what other people have made, I'm not necessarily saying we should make it look like that.
Anyways I really really like the idea of this one:

This is something I'd like to see: a WP charity shirt. I'd replace the AirNZ logo with the chch fund logo, but you get the idea. The line at the top is as close as I could find to the actual chch quake graph. They could release, say, 500 for the public to buy and sell the player's shirts with all proceeds going to the fund.

Agreed. If we did a Christchurch charity kit, I'd personally prefer a one-off red and black kit.

i believe the term is "too soon"

However, i'm aware that these CHCH Relief tee's from Mr. Vintage were quite popular, albeit a bit contentious too.

I think you're being a bit too precious. This would be a fundraiser and a commemoration to what was a pretty tragic natural disaster for our country. I don't see it as inappropriate at all, but rather as a tribute to the lives lost.

You sure? Because it looks more like an inadvertent tribute to the way those people were killed. You can raise funds and commemorate a group without rubbing the cause of death in their faces. I don't think anyone is being precious - rather I think you're being thoughtless and insensitive.

+1

I could (reluctantly) cope with a one off red and black strip (or maybe a one off away strip with red where the yellow is?), but this is just a bit on the nose for me. Not that I find it offensive, but I think some people would, and I don't see the point in courting controversy if we were to do anything like this.

Aesthetically, I actually think its pretty cool, but I realise my opinion on this doesn't really matter, as I don't know well anyone seriously affected by the quake.aitkenmike2011-04-28 18:21:38

I just don't get what's so wrong with having a charity shirt for the Christchurch quake. It wasn't that long ago, no, but I don't think it's insensitive to want to pay tribute to them.

They could just sell last seasons old Reebox match worn squad shirts (home/away) with the proceeds going to Christchurch instead of a special tribute shirt.

I would happily buy one of them.

I believe you've missed the point - there's nothing wrong with doing a charity shirt and nobody has suggested as such. The problem is doing an offensive charity shirt. It's the seismograph design you put forward that is insensitive, not the intention of paying tribute. If you had put forward an appropriate design and said "hey this could be a good Chch fundraiser kit" there'd have been no problem.

Read aitkenmike's supporting argument to my previous comment, he sums it up rather well.

Oh. I was just posting that for the idea of a charity shirt. Personally I think the seismograph would be a bit of a touchy thing to have on it, but unfortunately I don't have photoshop etc to make a design of my own, so I thought I'd just post it as the creater intended it, as an idea for a charity shirt.

This would be cool as the home strip and a white black and yellow version of the lyon away from 10/11

Too soon? It wont be too much longer until people completely forget about Chch. The less media coverage Chch gets, the less attention people pay.

I think everyone needs to calm down, theres nothing wrong with that proposed shirt design on the previous page (^^ this Mr. Vintage shirt has been doing very well and is even being worn by a lot of kiwi celebs).

Regardless - it's pretty near perfect (but noting Oska's comment about the funny collar colour).

Will find it hard to get a new shirt - especially if it is anything like the various designs suggested so far.

Need betten numbering area, and a more yellow yellow.

Our muted yellow is fine by me, black box of doom could be improved.

OK.  But apart from the collar, the yellow and the numbering areas it's pretty near perfect.

(probably needs more aquaduct, roading, sanitation, law and order, wine, etc.)

Instead of the black box of doom I'd rather the lines just stopped either side of the number area...a solid back colour (black or yellow) would look less stupid than a blank black box

Mariners create links with hummel
Friday, 13 May 2011

The Central Coast Mariners and hummel Australia today confirm that the Denmark-based sports clothing manufacturer will provide the clubs apparel, including playing strips, for the next two seasons.

The home and alternative kits will be formally unveiled closer to the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 campaign, and will comprise at least one brand new South American inspired design. The clubs traditional colours of yellow and navy will, of course, be retained as the prominent features of the clothing, while incorporating hummels signature chevrons.

Naturally, were very excited about the prospect of linking up with hummel Australia over the next two years, said club Chairman Peter Turnbull.

Since the Hyundai A-Leagues inception, the Mariners have aspired to make the most of all licensing and apparel opportunities as a part of our brand strategy. Our approach has always had both on and off-field aims and certainly this new deal allows us to expand upon that philosophy.

We were the first Hyundai A-League club to introduce vertical stripes into a playing kit in 2009, and together with hummel Australia, the club will once again be providing quality, unique licensed products for our supporters to enjoy, he explained.

Hummel has its roots firmly planted in rich football culture, having previously supplied apparel for European heavyweights such as Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur as well as the Danish national team.

The company was established in Germany in 1923 and currently kits out over 60 professional football clubs across Europe, Asia and Africa including ADO Den Haag, RC Strasbourg, AFC Champions League 2006 winners Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC and Scottish Premier League side St. Mirren.

Domestically, the manufacturer has a long lasting affiliation with Football NSW as well as all of the Westfield W-League sides.

There is no doubt that hummel is a company with a long and distinguished history in the game of football, Turnbull said.

That kind of respectable, quality brand is the kind of organisation that our club wishes to be associated with and this agreement therefore fits comfortably within our football clubs core values.

As part of the deal, the Mariners will become hummel Australias new distributor throughout the Central Coast, providing local clubs and organisations with apparel, creating yet another link between the club and the community.

Hummel Australia National Brand Manager Nathan Russell said the new deal was a crucial step in the continued expansion of the companys operations into the Australia & New Zealand region.

At the end of the day its great to be involved with a club that has similar values to our own in terms of creating close ties with the community and having a commitment to looking after those involved at the grassroots level of the game.

Its also a brand lift for hummel Australia in terms of exposure to a broader audience. Obviously with our close association with Football NSW the organisation is quite well known in the Sydney area, but this deal is a great development for us as our national exposure increases, he said.

The Mariners team and coaching staff will be decked out in new hummel training gear when they return to the pitch for the pre-season next Monday, 16 May.

Liked Adidas's World Cup style - Argentina Home with Black in place of the blue and gold in place of the white (similar to Milan strip) for the home kit and the Russian home kit with gold in place of the maroon and black lines? And lose the ugly pattern on the ruskie one.

Or a complete black back with the stripes on the front. Bit like Stoke City who have red back.
From the back, it would be a bit of a throwback to the original Phoenix kit.

the real question is, will there still be question marks over sponsorship come initial production runs and will that mean I can get a sponsor-less v3 to match my v1 & v2?

To me this would be the only way to get away from the black box of doom, without it looking awful.

Stoke's kit are addidas too arent they? Perhaps just a simple yellow & black version of that?
