Part of me laughs but part of me would not be surprised to see this happen. Lets face it, we could do with god on our side with these fucking referees we keep getting. Which reminds me, Ben Williams 1st WC game will show everyone in the world how terrible he is and some of the shyte we have to put up with.

Well if he wants to sign for the Phoenix then it seems the best pathway.

Payne would certainly be a good fit for ACFC for the Club World Cup (where the world would see him play and he could get a pro contract) and he's a natural replacement for Feneridis. Still think Ernie should at least give him a trial.

Would he go to ACFC or back to Waitakere where he kinda made his name (I say kinda) I know he made his debut at ACFC but I understood he was always a Waitakere lad? Open to being corrected as I am not quite sure.

It depends if he was wanted by Ramon. If he was, why wouldn't he signed up?

Few players would refuse an opportunity to prove a point or at least to strut their stuff in front of a global TV audience in Morocco.

We would have the Kiwi version of Andy Carrol playing against the English version of Rory Fallon in the same match if we did sign Fallon.

Fallon is slower than a Wellington City Bus and as big a turning circle. Not noted for blistering pace. Ok, he scored "That goal" supplied by a Leo cross by the way. If Crawley dont rate him..............

Slight tangent but is this really the case? Who actually watches the club world cup before the semifinal stage? If he just says that it would be an awesome opportunity then good on him, but if the express goal is to put himself in front of a 'global TV audience' I'd say he's clutching at straw there.

I highly doubt he will end up back playing ASB Premiership next season. He should pick up a gig in a lower league/scotland easily enough if he wanted to stay over there.

David Bentley is Brick Tamland.  This is from Jimmy Bullard's autobiography:

So I paid a visit to David Bentley’s room. Bents was a great lad. The bloke is an absolute wrong ’un, make no mistake about that, but a lot of fun nonetheless. He was always laughing and I mean, always laughing.

I stepped out of my hotel room. There was always heavy security surrounding the England team and I noticed there was a bouncer at both ends of the corridor. I had no idea how we were going to get food in there, but it had to be done because I was starving.

I knocked on Bentley’s door which he immediately opened and he burst out laughing: ‘Wa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!’

‘Bents,’ I said, ‘I haven’t even said anything.’

‘Wa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!’

‘Listen Bents, I’m starving. I’ve got to eat something.’

‘Wa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Funny you should say that. So am I.’

Pile of Wanderers players released

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/article/wanderers-confirm-string-of-player-departures/141ulfvcussn31oxjjdq79yz4v

Mooy's gone to Heart, Hersei to Perth, but there doesn't appear to be anyone else who stands out.  Beauchamp is not a long-term option and D'Apuzzo should probably stick to accountancy.

We will be after a striker. Pretty sure some other a-league team will offer him a contract though (wouldn't be surprised if the Tards picked him up), seems a bizzare release.

Despotović wanted too much from Sydney to stay, so won't be re-signed. If we were looking around the A-League for striker options, I wouldn't mind him. We do have cap space to spend.

Funny. I heard he was being re-signed to his last club in the Netherlands. Must have fallen through. This keeps happening with A-League players, cant get a gig in many 2nd divisions but come to aussie and theyre outstanding.

I see your point about signing Polenz. We need a new scapegoat, so that the refs stopped automatically thinking of Manny or Siggy as the ones to get sent off for a bone-crunching tackle, regardless who was at fault.

Yeah I see that as a bit more of an even split. There are a loud few who do want us to sign him, so the post counts lean heavily toward those who want him signed.

i think he'd be a good signing and would give moss some competition for a place in goal

Italiano was re-signed as the back up keeper. Spoons will probably be the injury replacement again if needed.

I still do not understand why we need an import backup goalie. We have enough of our own I'd say.

Unless a separate "goalkeeper" visa spot is created

A very late edit: of course he is not an import. This was a senior moment on my part.

Or a "two beersies too many" moment, not sure by now.

Because he is better than any other kiwi keeper in NZ? He doesn't count as an import spot in case you thought that.

I dunno, do we give the Aussie the boot to bring another kiwi into professional football? Or do we leave him be for his own benefit where he will play more footy than if he were to sign for us as a second string keeper?
