Brockie didn't play most of the season.
2014/15 Transfer Speculation
player and agent -
The only player who you could drop is McGlinchey. McGlinchey doesn't offer the goal scoring of his two attacking partners and doesn't even seem to be getting himself into those positions. I wouldn't drop him because the other options aren't better right now but he should be the one for the chop.
Dropping Burns is a ridiculous suggestion. He's unstoppable right now. Was only the finishing that was poor.
I wouldn't change our lineup at all, just keep up the shooting practice, and some extra set piece sessions please.
I think we're stating to realise how big a loss Brockie is. We all know he's a confidence player, scores two for us in last game and now's on a roll in SA.
Big call here but I think Burns should be dropped. He's been worked out by other teams.
Force him wide and don't jump in, he'll run out wide while he very in-often plays the early ball/pass as shown today.
I wonder if the Chinese attention has put him off his game as happened to Lockhead when he trialed at Middlesbrough.
Burns work rate is outstanding. He has put the ball on Roy's foot half a dozen times this season. The media love Carrusca but outside of him Burns has been the MVP and is creating as much as he shooting.
I agree that McGlinchey is not showing the form he is known for.
I look at the shape of the team and tend to think that Roly is playing the position that McGlinchey is accustomed to playing over the course of his career and had performed well at. Both of those players seems to be below par at the moment. Perhaps a change for both of those 2 (and that could be positional or swapped out) may help? I don't the answer, just a suggestion.
When you consider that Krishna and Burns play high and wide with the permission to roam, Roly is in behind them and you have A-Rod whom presses forward more than Lia did, throw in McGlinchey too, I can kinda see why we get caught on counters sometimes in that we have a boat load of attacking players. Now we are questioning the form of those players. As a question, do you drag one of those non performers (and lets use McGlinchey as the example only in this case) for someone more defensive minded (and the obvious one is Lia) which may free up more room for our attacking players? We tend on occasions to have too many in each others way.
Personally, I would not actually change anything and more adding conversation for the sake of it.
Burns might not be scoring but I think he's still playing decent; he set up quite a few chances in that game (including the first goal) by simply beating his man down the outside.
To me, he's reverted back to the player he was before he came to us. That is, more a winger who is comfortable setting up chances than an out-and-out forward.
Back to Joel Griffiths if I may.
Had a think about this over the weekend and it pains me to say but I cant see him actually being a negative for the team, regardless of how many matches he starts in the next few months.
The reason I say this is that occurred to me that he cant be coming here for the money as (in theory) he will already have been payed out his contract when his employment termination came through at Newcastle.
As long as he knows his role in the squad then I think he will provide us with something extra.
Even if I think he is a cod, he would be a Phoenix cod.
Now, if you excuse me I think I am about to vomit! :-)

That would be a pretty loud indicator.......

Remember how desperate we were to get him off the Salties?!? I think we have hard evidence that one star does not make a winning team (cf. KFCarlos).

This. I think in all three games if we had scored first we'd have dealt out a pasting as they pushed to find goals.
Makes our incompetent set pieces much more of a problem.

That's great and all but we need Burns to do a lot more than be the player he was before he came to us. Burns has propelled us to the top by advancing his game. If Burns isn't going to score goals then Krishna is our only goal scorer in the starting XI. I personally think Burns will still score goals but that is what we need from him. If he can't do it then Griffiths will need to come into the team (probably for McGlinchey).
Apparently Perth have made Griffiths an offer.
well we scored from a corner yesterday and we scored from a free kick. Two more bad omens put to rest.

Have been waiting for someone to mention that (for me anyway) that Mac is not a natural striker and his best position is in the midfield setting up goals. With what we have I guess he is the only one to play there.
I think Ernie is trying to use McGlinchey similar to the manner in which he used KFC Carlos at Melbourne. Problem is that no one is going to defend McGlinchey on the shot cause he takes none.

He might be listed on the teamsheet as a striker, but he isn't really playing as one; seems to drop in behind Burns and Krishna most of the time.
I do think him and Roly sometimes seem to get in each others way.

Good fit.
On one hand I think we need another striking option off the bench, especially because Boyd has been frozen out for whatever reason.
On the other hand, it's a 35-year-old J.Griffiths.
I'd rather us sign an inanimate carbon rod.

Surely Apiah becomes that option

He's going through a quiet patch. He is a quality player and will come right.

Hi did put through several excellent passes that might have turned into assists on another day
James Gardiner @JamesGardiner42
Former @NewcastleJetsFC striker Joel Griffiths set to resurrect A-league career at @WgtnPhoenixFC
8:53 PM - 23 Feb 2015
James is a journalist at the Newcastle Herald (local reliable paper), although he doesn't promise that the deal is done...
Confirmed on stuff....
Standby for angry mob with pitchforks and burning torches , led by News descending upon Newtown Park!
Haha hilarious! Hope he bangs them in for us. And scores lots of goals.
New chant to the tune of the Bee Gees "Night Fever" -> "Nutpuncher"
Meh; hes now a Phoenix player so will support him until he leaves. Once he leaves, he will again be a nut punching cod.
Can someone please send out a search party for Hard News in case he plans on jumping off any cliffs.
Griffiths scores the winning goal in the GF = rock & hard place.

Did we?
Ah wait... we did !

It really is funny - the silence is deafening. The Mars Attack movie comes to mind, heads exploding all across Wellington.
In case there's any lingering doubt about the veracity of the transfer he was having a coffee with Durante this morning.
He gives us a option we don't currently have to change our set up up front. A front 3 of Burns, Krishna and Griffiths - sounds good to me. Also means McGlinchy can play in a position that better suits him.
Memory is fading but wasn't so much as a nut punch but more a fanny touch or has my memory completely failed me At least it's not Burns
Heard Karmichael Hunt may be looking for a job. The Sackwhacker and the Snifter
Anyone heard about a possible Boyd move to Portugal? Credence or bollocks?
