Shame the Auckland game is not at 3pm, might've made the 8pm flight back down. But being over the Bridge is it worth a Fever Bus trip?

I heard Dome on the Radio saying the Saturday kick offs are not ideal. He obviously does not read here.

Saturday night and Sunday afternoons are totally different types of crouds, they have focused on getting families along so it moves away from all the work they have done in the past. Night games are good for the Fever, not great for the kids in general.

I would have preferred two games at the Hutt Rec than chch or Auckland. We ARE The Wellington Phoenix.

I wonder if  the big data people have provided a breakdown of children vs adult ticket sales to the Nix and if so have the absolute numbers and ratios remained constant over the last few years or changed?

Also if you take the cohort of children that started following the Nix in the first two or three years of the club - how many of them still go to games (they will of course be 6-8 years older so possibly the night games won't be an issue for them)?

Maybe it's worth tapping into the teenage/young adult demographic (late teens/mid 20s with some money to spend on frivolous things like football and onesies)?

What about a Phoenix zerosie?

Actually in my defence I had just lashed out and got flights to the Akld and ChCh games so when my cunning plan to get the onesies was vetoed by one of the progeny I wasn't overly upset and saved myself spending another $75. If I had got them it would have been not completely necessary...

Of course most of us in Welly would, but I'm pretty resigned to a couple being out of Welly these days. Just glad they're back to only two, and letting go of the 3-4 per year travelling circus nonsense.

Thankfully a game in Chch. Good job.

Gon a be a cnut of a thing to get to North Harbour, knowing Auckland traffic. I dont mind spending the night at the International  terminal but this really could be a headache. Any positive solutions welcome.

I don't like the 7pm Sunday games.  Regardless if one is during the holiday period.

I think what we can take away is you can't satisfy 100% of the people 100% of the time. I like that they are trying us in a new slot not just for crouds but also tv coverage here and Australia

Absolutely agree.  But our lower than expected turn out for our elimination match against Melbourne City 7pm Sunday night should have been a big indication to the powers that be that it is a no goer.

Permalink Permalink

that also depends on what the TV ratings on fox were though.

That's mostly all they care about with these draws, not our crouds.

Recall in the past them saying that focusing on the family angle for the Sunday was a matter of, well, we've gotta push we we've got sort of a thing on the podcast.

Lets face it from past experience the way the FFA schedules games has no logic.Almost seems at times they schedule our games so they draw low crouds. ie games at a stupid time on a sunday nite,or in Dunedin when the students are out of town.

Does anyone know if the upcoming FFA cup match will be on the telly?

Very very unlikely. They are showing Palm Beach SC (Rees) vs South Melbourne (Eagar, Adams, Bevan) live on Fox next Wednesday, with cameras around the other grounds for goal updates.

Bloody QBE stadium, if they want small they should have gone Mount Smart, or invested in a stadium with some semblence of infrastructure IE Eden Park.

EDIT: Auckland stadium rant aside it's AWESOME to see more Saturday events :)

Eden Park has always been the clubs preference afaik, maybe something has already booked the ground? Maybe TopLeft07 knows.

Dome had a big rant about eden park after the last event, how the Pheonix are one of their biggest tennants and whent their three times last year, with x amount of tens of thousands through the gates but Eden Park treats them like crap and they have to start each booking from scratch as if their wasn't that existing relationship. Just seems like they don't care about the Phoenix - which being the home of Rugby, and knowing what the staunch egg ball fanatics of the older generation are like I can see.

Much better to go to somewhere which is acomodating and football friendly.

Gonna be a prick to get to from the Airport and back there again after the game. Anyone got a spare three hours due to traffic jams.

Thats nonsense and dont know why you keep perpetuating it (except that you like moaning).

Last season I got down to Welly 4 times: there and back to Auckland on the same day. I got to see a fifth game by persuading the woman in my life to go down for a January break for a few days. She wants to go to Buenos Aires for next year; still I'll be able to see some football there.

7pm kick offs make there and back in the same day impossible. I might get down for one game in the new year. Maybe. If the prices are ok. I'm not booking flights for February 2016 now. I used to see quite a number of people in Phoenix shirts on the flight back, so I'm not the only one.

There will be special buses from Britomart to the stadium at no charge. The busway means traffic congestion is at a minimum.

I'm happy with the Albany game as, assuming we go, my partner's parents (who we stay with whenever we go to Auckland) live on the North Shore anyway so would be even easier for us than Eden Park.

Don't know how comfortable it is but Mana Bus have an overnight Wellington-Auckland bus leaving at 10pm from in front of the train station. Could be an option for after a 7pm game if there is no flight late enough? I thought Inter City would too but looks like their overnight one leaves at 7.30 at the moment.
