2015/16 Transfer Speculation

Anthony Hobbs I think is who you mean either that or you're two years late on Ian Hogg.

Jon McKain is playing in Malaysia at the minute - worth  a look for physicality in midfield and cover for CB?

Should we let A-Rod go? Import place and not demanding a start - been too inconsistent.

You mean the same 21yo A Rod who made his senior debut this season and completed more passes per 90mins at a higher accuracy rate than anyone else in our midfield? Sure, if we got a decent offer we could let him go but why would we spend the money to pay him out of his contract?

Conan - you can talk all the stats but ideally your 5 import players would all be starting. If Merrick doesn't see A-Rod as a better option than Lia then he should consider moving A-Rod on. I would keep A-Rod because I think he is definitely better than Lia and he should be a lot better in his second season.

I agree that he should get better, which is why I mentioned his age and the fact that he made his senior debut this season. He didn't actually miss that many games - 19 starts and 6 sub appearances. I just think that talking of letting him go on the basis of what we've seen this year is strange. I know stats don't tell the whole story but on the other hand I think he nature of his play this season, passing tidily and linking defence and attack, has meant that he doesn't stand out on the field, which means that some people think he hasn't done much.

So we're moving Krishna on as well then?

Completely agree with Conan, we've got pretty good value out of Krishna and ARod in their first years of pro football, and I can see them continuing to improve next season. ARod has the potential to become a core member of the Nix into the future if we wants to stick around.

Not convinced we can attract 5 imports that would be starters. Also i dont see the problem in using an import spot on someone like A Rod.

I just missed it but at around 4:45 today Boxall was interviewed on Radio Sport. I caught the banter between zdarcy and Goran in which they quoted him as saying something like he wanted to play CB and wasnt able to in our set up.

Fair enough as well. He is 27 and if he has any desire to play at a higher level then the A league, then in reality that isn't going to happen playing at right back. He needs to get back to his best position. If he goes any further as a result is up to him.

Joey Barton might be getting released by QPR and so too Adel Taarabt whom would eat this league up and maybe not cost as much as you think but would defo be a Marquee player.

25 year old Taarabt who was last year shining in Serie A for Milan and every now and then proclaims he should playing for Barcelona or Madrid? We can dream I guess.

Thing is, no one is interested in him any more and he is in the last year of his contract. He is a proven goalscorer. It might be a pipe dream but isn't that what speculation and suggestions are for? Gonna be a few releases within the next month.

I reckon A-Rod will improve tenfold next season after his first year in the real leagues.

Is anyone else surprised that Boxall is 27? For some reason I thought he was a lot younger than that.

Well he came from the MLS and before that 4 years at College so it didn't surprise me. Maybe because we have only been seeing him for a limited time and so hasn't seemed like he has been around long.

I remember him playing at Kiwitea St - and that seems about 15 years ago!

Edit: checked. Was 2006/7, first for Central (young player of the year) then 6 games for Auck City.

Roar are cutting costs, so maybe Hingert could be available? He has Polenz in front of him and will be on a decent wage. He did pull out of a deal with us previously tho.

Is he really better than Louis though (or for that matter Manny) at RB?

Think Hingert is more in the mould that Merrick wants than Muscat is.

Sure, but I have Manny with status of Backup in my squad. Is Hingert really an upgrade?

Not sure. But Ernie has shown he is able to get the best outta players.

I would say attacking wise and better at playing both FB positions. Manny has generally been a good one on one defender but 2nd half of this season he has not been as good as previously, is that a sign of decline or temporary form dip?

I thought Manny was ok on the left when he initially moved across when Doyle was dropped.

The story goes that he verbally agreed to join us, went home to pack and the Roar threw a contract in front of him.

He is experienced and has been previously said that can play anywhere across the back four. So wouldn't be a bad pick up up imo. Whether he would want out & come here this time is a different story tho

don't think he has really played much (at all) in the centre of defence. Can play further forward on the wings. Did have a bad injury a couple of seasons ago and not sure if he has had some more injury problems again because roar did sign polenz mid season. I also wonder if he is quick enough but think he is a skillful attacking fb.

Glad we're not playing semifinal football tonight. Simply because we're not ready for it.

Think Ernie's always targeted next year as our year, but smartly signed Griffiths after the halfway window, as most of the club, and us, felt we were a chance, ahead of our time.

The 2 windows worked against us badly. Most sides below us went full tit on improving their commitment, and that last FIFA window just killed us. Probably the major concern there is that the Rufers and Ridentons haven't come on - well not to the stage where Ernie would pick them. Don't know if our Kiwi 'kids' get it. Lots of their Oz counterparts are from working class backgrounds, and really, none of our so- called kids have showed they can hack it at this level. (is that a comfy old middle class Kiwi thing - as none of them look like they want it !)

We have 2 or 3 starting players who aren't quite good enough (now) for the starting eleven in a Final. I think Lia's a hero for this club. Just wish our kids could learn the commitment thing from him. Same with Muscat. They have given this club heaps,.Plus Boxall is a centre back - nothing more - which it why he quite rightly is leaving.

This weekend, the side that wins the 50 50 midfield ball will win their semis. We are a way better side than Melbourne City, but they had it where it counts in a Final - and outmuscled us in midfield - easily.

Has never changed in A League Finals Football. Until we can compete at that torrid level in Finals Football with a true inforcer (2016 version of Lia) then we can't win this Comp.

Siggy wanted it. Fenton wants it. However they weren't groomed in an academy.

Signed for Parma but the deal fell thru after they didn't front up with the money (foreshadowed their future problems). He is contracted to 2016/17 as they expect to sell him for a decent amount in the future.

I tend to agree,Rufer and Ridenton were disappointing and even Boyd didnt really hit the heights most of us probably hoped he would.

That's incredibly harsh. Ridenton's only 19, Rufer's 18, and Boyd did more than you could of asked of him for the reserves and when he got a run in the first team.

Tonya, to call Lia " The Enforcer"  then say we were out muscled by Melbourne City in the mid field is puzzling.  Lia played in the  mid field against  Melbourne City and I did not see any enforcing. Just another of his sub standard performances. Mercifully he was subbed off to the cheers of the croud who were glad to see the back of him.
