Of course a young guy is going to be bragging about earning money, even the minimum wage of the A-League is big money if you're 22. When I got my first proper job outside of University I was ecstatic as well, even though it was bugger all.
That story about the board not wanting to sign him until late in the preseason to save a few grand doesn't seem to make much sense as he won't be on much.
I hope he signs, but then if he's bragging about money he has the potential to go off the rails and spend half his time in mermaids.
I'm sure if he goes to as much as a movie, buys or sells a TV, let alone has a drink in a bar it'll be all over the net and he'll never get a chance to live it down.
Hope he gets signed, is looked after, chooses the right advice to listen to and does well.
When we say 'dropped' NUFC we meaning to the bench?

Yes please
Not lying. I have a mate who knows one if the guys he told. He gets 300 a week now. If on contract he gets 80k a year.
Seriously you can ban me if you find out otherwise.

He was probably getting 300 at Wairarapa
Is there a minimum wage for professional footballers? Even with a salary cap, there has to be some sort of minimum.

So .... we can ban him now? ;)

Assuming there is any merit to the above story, It is easier to teach a young useful / promising / footballer how to keep his mouth shut than it is to teach a well-behaved nice and ineffective player how to be a useful footballer that helps us to win games.
A hairdryer treatment in private is a useful part of a young player's education if needed. They really good strikers often have an unruly streak or may even not be the easiest guys to be around all the time (Berisha, anyone?) but that is a good coach's job to keep them on a leash.
Is it time for his orchidectomy?

See, I am in favour of banning for obviously generally offensive stuff.
Given how quiet this forum has been recently, I am definitely NOT in favour of banning somebody for stupid or bullshark posts. Part of the joy of reading comments here was the stupid or bullshark posts. There was a drive for a good while to only post from sycophants, and the tone of some posts has already been heavily challenged by a few who consider themselves the arbiters of all things Phoenix.
To them I say "Sod Off".
I am really quite a fan of free speech. I feel pretty sure many others are, too.
I don't know if NUFC is lying or not, I didn't even realise that he has a history of it. But you can't just be spreading false information.
How would we claim our prize from NUFC if we ban him though.
I know he's a bit of a character, but why are we saying he's lying? What is his history of that exactly?
It's usually pretty obvious when he's taking the p*ss, and this doesn't seem like one of those times.
It rubs the lotion on the skin
It's not false info. That's what I heard from people close to him. Yes the 300 might have been from ASB but the 80k and him telling people about it is rock solid.
When I take the piss, I don't offer to be banned if I'm wrong. Calm down, son.
I don't think he is lying. Just stoopid.

amen - you can always ignore the stupid posts if you want, but why not let others enjoy them (except for actual offensive stuff, of course). Without the humour all we're left with is a pretty average football team in a pretty average competition. And without any angst we'll have about 7 people posting.
I think spreading unfounded bs about someone should be bannable
However, nufc's story is pretty believable. Who wouldn't be happy about that kinda pay rise? Good on him.

80k seems a reasonable suggestion as to what he might be on if the minimum salary really is 60k.
Wouldn't there be match bonuses, performance bonuses, etc etc that would increase it further than 60?
Plus if he's bragging to mates then I'm pretty sure 70k plus would easily be rounded up to 80 hahahaha
Perfectly legit transfer speculation, I reckon. Anything remotely believable on defenders NUFC?

a facepalm gif!
Watson would be an import for other clubs. Likewise we aren't rushing to sign Santalab or Joey whoever it was.
Do you think on the last game he should be paid less than Powell? Less than Lia? Than Fenton? Than Doyle?
For me he was one of the few things that made the game worth watching.
I do question this slightly.
One would assume that Ridenton, Rufer, McGarry and Rogerson are on the minimum wage - I would hazard that Danaskos would be much the same. So why would Watson get more than them when he has come in as an injury replacement?

Maybe he's Ernies nephew and Ernies sister called in a favor?
(I have no idea who decides paychecks for players)

So you would base your salary payments on a twenty minute period. On that basis Powell would be on about 2m a year based on his WSW performance.
And surely the fact he is an import elsewhere gives us the club even more bargaining power
I think Watson has done quite well overall - I thought his best performance was against MV but he has also slotted a few well taken goals.
A good plan B for sure, and one that could be come a Plan A by the end of the season depending on how we're going.
We should call it plan W i reckon, just so opposing teams don't understand it.

I always love the 'he did really well when he came on' argument. It's All White counterpart is we played really well in the last 20/30/2nd half, take your pick.
What such arguments tend to completely overlook is the state/context of the game - coming on for the last 20 minutes when the opposition has already won the game and are already thinking about next week and play-offs afterwards is a bit different to being able to make a difference when the game is there to be won or lost.

That is what he said to people. Of course he could be exaggerating. I'm just reporting what i'm hearing from folk close to HW.
doing well when you come on still has to be better than not doing well... you want players to have some kind of positive impact. Unlike, say, Appiah.
I agree though that it is about consistency, which is why easily beating a good side once every so often doesn't really mean shark

That is ignoring the fact that overall HW has played pretty well when he has started too.

Except that wasn't my argument at all.
But more *yawn* forum authorities and straw men
It also holds much more water than he did sweet f all when he was on, must be great.
1- Watson wouldn't be looked at by other clubs, because he would be competing against the likes of Fornaroli and Berisha for a spot. That doesn't seem like much of an argument to try and screw down his salary to the absolute minimum allowable- I was comparing what he brings to Fenton, Lia, Doyle, Powell and Lia- using for sake of argument the most recent performance. Professional athletes give up other opportunities, have a short career and risk serious injury in their job.
2- Watson offered a lot more on the park on this and on other occasions, and he has caused defences trouble when he's been on across several games. Before the game has been won or lost.
If the game is totally f-ing miserable and few players are showing anything, I'm allowed to point out that one or two players did well and I enjoyed watching.
Not sure what is worse at the moment the forum or the team tbh.
also, Powell only really had that one excellent game, which if he hadn't played, he would be surely on the outer.
