The composition of your bench is probably more important over the course of the season than a single position in your starting XI. That is what I wrote and I believe that to be true.

Right oh.  Well I am going to suggest something that for some reason seems revolutionary and that is sign some defenders to improve our defence.

Last 4 seasons we have been objectively really bad. Finishing 10th, 9th, 4th and 9th; GD of -18, -6, +10 and -20 over the past 4 seasons - it doesn't make great reading!! 180 goals conceded in 108 games for 122 points (source; Wikipedia).

After season 2013/2014 the Nix finished 9th with a -6 goal difference. The next season they signed exactly ONE defender who only played less than a third of the season and the team finished with a +10 goal difference. The main difference? Depth and capability on the bench.

Hmm, or perhaps we signed 2 of the best 3 players to ever play for the club (Burns and Bonevacia)

You could say we've essentially gone and done that again with Finkler and Barbarouses?

This time we added what looks like a quality CB as well.

We just gotta find a quality RB now. Somehow. Somewhere.

Possibly. And if that is the case it suggests that we don't need to focus entirely on defenders to improve our defense. We can improve by having better quality over the whole pitch, which as Paulm has pointed out - it looks like that is what has happened.

With that said, a proper FB would be good, I just wouldn't drop A-Rod to find one.

It's obvious that having a cohesive unit up front helps the defence too - but I still think we need reinforcements. The one good thing to come out of last season was that Fox got a whole lot of experience, so should be ready to slot in when needed.

Those free kicks were probably best left to the imagination, haha. Both pretty bad, somehow squeezing through.

Other two goals were nice though

Yeah bit of a let down.  Only good thing was they were on target and they went in..a goal's a goal.

We score two goals from a freekicks and people complain about that where deflections. I hope this season will be all how 'not actually great' our goals where shot.

I hope it is! Much better topic than where is our next goal coming from?!

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

I think the first free kick took a deflection, but the second one was just perfectly placed. Either way, I'm stoked that we are a threat from set pieces now! No more cynical fouling Roly on the edge of the box.

That touch was Cahills, but Rossi should've stopped it.

Tasman in the curtain raiser vs weenix. 3-1 to Tasman. Iffil with a pen and a brace for the Swedish chef? Other predictions?

Fox at RB, Vinnie at CB, Parkhouse at LB? or are we playing with 3 CBs and Parkhouse + Ridenton are wingbacks?

Ryan Lowry is a LB from ECU Joondalup, the team Mambo played over winter with. Ex Glory youth player that was in that WA select side that faced the Glory.

Jacob Tratt is a CB that can play RB, he was contracted with Sydney FC last season

Shayne D'Cunha is another CB that can play RB, previously at WSW last season.
