Plenty of Central League Rogerson could have played in April (and June, July, August), plus he was certainly one of the last few in the AWs.
2016/17 Phoenix Preseason
I have been told that Singh has played some outstanding games for Wellington United and has great potential. I have yet to see him play this year so what are some thoughts from those who have watched hiim?
Anyone Singhing his praises?
We only Singh when we're winning
I was there. The Phoenix controlled the first half well, with the experience of A-rod and Roly in the midfield. I thought Sarpeet Singh played well, almost had the opening goal, but hit the post and Fenton put it in. Fenton was playing further up the field than he has been recently and was involved. James McGarry also looked dangerous going forward, and is certainly a promising prospect.
In the first half, the defence didn't have much to do, but looked assured. The raps goal came about 30 seconds after the Phoenix scoring, when they attacked down Justin Gully's (who otherwise looked quite assured) wing. Phoenix guilty of switching off, possibly inexperience creeping in. In the second half a lot of experience came off, and the United were knocking on the door. A few great saves from Oli Sail kept them out and then after rapa had a goal disallowed for offside, Wellington put the game out of reach, somewhat against the run of play.
A great event in front of a good crowd. Would be great if it was a regular pre-season fixture. I remember watching the nix at Hullena park when I was still at school. Hopefully Andy Martin enjoyed it and Masterton in on the table when they next look at a national league expansion, or a club inevitably goes bust.
Another Cahill?
Ruairi (roughly pronounced Rory) Cahill-Fleury is a local Wellington lad from Island Bay. Brilliant kid, hope he makes it.
Good to see a lot of local Wellington talent in the trial list.
As well as Ruairi, Cherbal Khouchaba is from Stop Out. Liam Wood is from Upper Hutt. Liam Hare is a Masterton lad I think.
Yes. He was head boy of Wairarapa College. He got the biggest cheer of the night when he came on.
How well did Ifill play and did Siggy get a run?
Yeah Siggy got the last ten minutes. Good cameo, even made an attacking run into the opposition half...
Ifill was good. Always busy. Seems to have a good understanding with Hoyt as both players roamed and switched sides regularly. He over hit a few balls, but still has it.
Oh and Tam Dimiro played really well for rapa. Not sure if there was anything else behind him being released, but he could be worth another look I reckon.
IIRC he's heading to the states for college.

You sure that's not his brother Tap you're thinking of?

Thought they both were?

Singh looked pretty good in the Hong Kong 7s.
Appiah ripped up the 7's, remember.
From what I've seen of Singh (not much); he seems pretty light weight and he isn't skilled enough to completely offset that (i.e. a Marco)

Bump. Anyone's guess who will be up front tonight.

Not Logan Rogerson. He dislocated his shoulder at training last week. Out for 6 weeks.
Wait where and when tonight?

Was really impressed with Singh.
Singh was in a different class to everyone else on the pitch last night including his senior colleagues.
I am slightly concerned at the inability of the Phoenix to create and finish good chances, but it's early days I suppose.

Seriously though, you would think that once Gui and Kosta settle in they should help address that. Plus now we have a spot for a local striker (DeVries?)
been like that for every preseason and the season has worked out fi......

The amount of positivity around Singh's potential has me a little giddy with excitement. Has NZ ever produced a 'world-class' play maker before?
I know it's very early days yet but he seems like the type of player that looks like he slows down time when on the ball, can pick out a pass with superhuman vision and actually make the pass with sublime timing and weight - if only there were players that could reliably finish. He may be a bit small right now, but nothing a bit of conditioning shouldn't be able to fix. Looking forward to seeing him and Rogerson hopefully get some first team action this season.

Remember last year Appiah was scoring for fun in the pre-season...
Singh, McGarry and Rogerson hopefully will all get some minutes this year.
All 18 or under?
McGarry and Rogerson are 18. Singh I think is a year younger.

Glad you put NZT next to the Nelson game or I might have turned up late.

You would think there'll be a few more between 2 August and 11 September, but probably need to see how we go in the FFA Cup first before locking anything in.
Yeah think the next round is either late august or early sept.

I'm was actually quite fond of Jacko as a player. Mike McGarry is probably my favourite AW from yesteryear though.

Thanks for all the input but I have no idea who this 'jacko' is. Am I too young? Or just ignorant?
