EDIT: http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/892...
A Rod and Watson likely to be gone according to this, Bonevacia already well on the way...
Can't see how they think Fenton is more likely to get a contract than Watson...
link fixed.
Personally I think they could do a lot worse than re-signing A-Rod. He shows enough promise to build a team around (almost). Where is Roy at with his citizenship? Possible for next year?
The article seems to suggest resigning average local players and then trying to get superstar imports, they need to build a team that functions.
The only reason I can think of to not resign someone like A-Rod is if you think his skillset and what he brings to the team can be replaced by a local player.
It's going to be an interesting period between now and when the players contracts expire, they need a long term call on the coaching role so they can start recruiting/retaining
The salary cap rises to $2.9 million next season, from $2.65 million. I wonder if that increase & money saved if Mossy leaves can be used to bring one of Kosta or Gui into the cap so we can chase a marquee for next season
Is it confirmed that Gui is a marquee? I thought the club had only confirmed Kosta. I'd think Roly would be on pretty good coin, so money saved on Roly and Moss would equal a pretty good foreign player.
So long as we don't get another Jeffrey Sarprong
Why not make it a flat 3 mill?

I thought that article read more like speculation than anything concrete
And a future All White. Maybe NZ football should suppliment was wages and try to fast track his immigration.
I've never understood the negativity around A Rod. He's class, an economical footballer who rarely takes the wrong option. And I agree, get him into the AWs pronto.
We have a long history of underrating our more defensive midfielders.

There still is nothing like Tim Brown.
I thought A Rod couldn't play for NZ because at the time he played a youth international he had no ties to NZ??

I think you are confusing Roly and A-Rod.
In that case... sign him up for three and lock him in.

I think you can argue Tim Brown did more defensive work than Lia does. It's hard to defend when they've run past you. Brown at least worked to get back.
Better I'd say. A-Rod can probably match Riera's sense of defensive positioning and timing with experience, but his natural technical ability is superior to everyone's favourite paramedic. Personally I think we should be pushing him to get forward and improve his scoring rate. I think he'd suit the Nix better as an upgraded Tim Brown, rather than an upgraded Albert Riera.

No need to be defensive about it.
Tim Brown could at a pinch play in any position.
Paartalu is training with his old club in Scotland after being released from his middle east club midseason. Rumours were that he turned us down earlier this season but maybe we should approach him again.
WSW can get Roly but lets get Baccus
WSW can get Roly but lets get Baccus
Just keep him away from the airport car park..
Paartalu would be a good recruit for Roly's spot if Roly's money can be used for that. And there is no visa spot required.
When in 2014 Newcastle Jets were chasing him after his stint in Korea ended, he apparently said publicly "I want to be at a club with an ambition to be successful on/off the field and Melbourne City FC is that club" which probably would not have made him any friends in Newcastle.
On the strength of that, I would say he'd turn us down, money or not.
Anyone know if Tom Jackson has NZ citizenship?
Don't believe so.
I've been keeping track of off contract players in the 'straya section. There might be some +1 options on here that may have been triggered but not announced. So might not be 110% accurate but should be a good guide at what is on the local market for next season.

WSW can get Roly but lets get Baccus
I don't see Baccus as replacing Roly more to play alongside ARod. We still have WeeMac and Finkler for attacking midfield positions (+ a free visa spot if Roly goes). Baccus is an athlete, his pace would be great, and is decent with the ball.
On our list I would re-sign ARod, Lia and Tratt. Maybe Smeltz and Italiano. There are some really talented players (Ninkovic, Troisi, Castro) that could replace Roly but not sure how likely we are too sign them and likely they cost a lot. Gameiro, Howard and Bingham are, IMO, upgrades on Watson. Scott Galloway is a decent FB to pick up, depending on Tratt
I'm wondering what position we actually need to spend that visa spot on, probably not a midfielder, I'm leaning towards a 12+ goal per season striker, but seeing as those are hard to come by then probably a FB.
What's wrong with Doyle and Tratt?

I thought the rumour was Tratt was gonr
If Tratt was gone, why come back?
Personal reasons may have been just that. Gamerio - no thanks, all he will do is rise our ACC Levies.

He's on a +1 one deal which is usually appearance based. He's played 20 games this season so likely he would click over that .
