Isn't that the zimbabwean geezer who said he wanted to come play here to someones aunt's cousin's neighbour's dog?

Off-contract midfielder Cameron Devlin, a regular starter for Wellington Phoenix this season, looks set to join Ingham on the Hunter after previously being linked with Victory.

Well there is the Jets link that was mentioned to me awhile back.
I'd be really disappointed if Devlin left us to go to The Jets.

Why on earth would he go there?! Hope they're at least throwing a boatload of cash at him, or maybe playing back in NSW has made him realise he wants to be based in Aussie. Overall a bizarre move to trade down quality of football.

would be interesting conspiracy theory around the throwing of heaps of cash given 3 current clubs "own" the jets. I read somewhere that the three were going to allow a massive amount of cash to be splashed on players. Perhaps getting Devlin away from us is a win/win, strengthens the Jets and severely weakens us.

Things can change quickly in the a league. Ownership issues are still in the air but more settled now than past couple of seasons, but they bring a couple of players of Devlin ability in and some visa players that perform well and a decent coach and you're in finals contention.

I saw an article that said the 'Nix owners were one of the 4 owners of the Jets:

After previous chairman Martin Lee was stripped of the club’s licence last year, the Jets have been financed by a consortium of owners from four other clubs - the Wanderers, Sydney FC, Western United and Wellington Phoenix.
https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/i-stayed-right-out-of-it-wanderers-owner-denies-transfer-collusion-claims-20210507-p57q1b.html

So, would be interesting if we are funding Devlin's departure

Not only based in Aussie, but close to agents perhaps.

The wording is interesting - there's both a jab at Davila, implying he excelled because of Uffie, and a hint that we've got cash to blow.

Sets us up to be looking to another big name or two to replace outgoing ones which is interesting, has me excited to see who we can get our hands on.

Tbf he has done far better in terms of goals and assists than anywhere else. He's played about 1/5 of his games for the Phoenix, but almost half of his goals and assists were here.

With the 'record-setting' attempts I wonder how close it was to McArthurs offer or if was even more?

Could of been a combination of how much the bulls offered and the lifestyle he saw over there too.

Wowee, yeh. Domey, and quite possibly, Uffie pissed. Playing in India a bit of a harder sell for sure.
Losing Uli, Tomer and Devlin a bit crap.
Guna be frustrating if it takes half a season for our next striker to get match fitness. Would we look at someone like Mitch Duke or Juric? Also reckon Duke gave Tim Payne a finishing school with that embarrassment earlier in the season! Nowhere close to what Tomer showed at the end of the season, but can hit the ground running.

Hmm pass on Juric, I think Adelaide fans were less than happy with him from this season and preferred Yengi/Toures. I’d also expect he’d ask for reasonable wages given his rep, and that it’d be better spent elsewhere. Duke would be better, but can’t see him coming here, he’s only on loan at Wanderers and is contracted at Al-Taawoun (Saudi) until end of next season, and Domey wouldn’t be desperate to sign a 30 year old who’s only ‘above-average’ at A League level.

A wag posting a player is leaving a club on social media both sucks, lacks class and is disrespectful to a club who has expressed an interest in wanting the player to stay.

Obviously we need to assess the wags attitude and class along with the husbands next time

If you believe what you read on social Media Devlin is off the Jets, and Hemed is going to an unnamed Australian team according to his wife.

Someone localish with pedigree who Uffie could get possibly get more out of. Those were the two who we’ve recently played against who came to mind as operating in a Tomer-adjacent kind of mode. Someone did say Watto! Just an idea if we’d rather not wait for the European window. Any better ideas then?
Also: apparently Tomer’s post is down? Counter offer?

Interesting indeed. If it was somewhat close in terms of $ value, you'd think he'd be slightly better off in Wellington in terms of living costs. I mean the cost of living in many major cities in Australasia is astronomical - Sydney/Greater Western Sydney would be right up near the top though.

Perhaps him and his young family just wanted to expand their horizons and see a bit more of the world - Can't really begrudge him for that. That and probably the fact it'll be his last big $$$ contract. Take it while you can get it I guess.

Good luck to him though, he's been fantastic for us in what has been a trying 18 month period for the club.

Also, Devlin to the Jets!? 😂
They must be throwing some serious money at him to try and resurrect that train wreck of a club. Undoubtedly a step backward if it eventuates.

I am not hearing Dura saying that he regretted going to Western Sydney, so even half-decent players can choose to play for an unknown quality club if the offer is right.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Permalink Permalink

Dura said that he Ufuk wanted to transition him out of the starting line up and that he didn't think he would suit the system that Ufuk wanted to play so he felt that going to western prolonged his career. Might not have anything to do with money.

Pure speculation here, but Diego Mauricio from Odisha FC in India. Played alongside Taylor, and scored a bunch of goals in an underperforming side.

The last random we got from India went ok...

Transfermarkt says his contract ended at the end of last month
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_Maur%C3%ADcio
https://www.transfermarkt.com/diego-mauricio/profil/spieler/138141

One decent season in his entire career as a striker? Surely we can do better.

Let's be real, international or Aussie stars might just not like living in Wellington. It appeals to some (Ifill, Greenacre), but lifestyle/environment, even weather is a factor (thoughI don't think anyone who's lived most of their life in the UK will mind the weather, honestly.)

If Tomer is going somewhere there are more Jews, maybe Uli likes it somewhere where there are more Mexicans.

Should just stick to the Englishmen then, Iffy & Greenacre have stayed after retiring, Taylor loves it here.

It's not really that surprising that these guys find places like Sydney more attractive than Wellington. Uli would clearly prefer warmer weather!

An Auckland A-League team would be interesting if it could attract foreigners with a climate/lifestyle more 'competitive" with smaller Australian cities (always assuming all the disastrous experience of the Kingz/Knights are taken into account). Imagine an Argentian gun attracted by the Waiheke Island Latino community.

Fenton officially signed on for next year - potentially an extension to an existing contract as opposed to a new one based on the wording.

Pretty happy about this, great seeing him battle back from his injuries to hold down a starting spot and love to see a local lad succeed.

I know very wealth people can enjoy a good quality of life where ever, but to make us feel a bit better The Economist ranks Wellington higher than most Aussie cities at least.
