Ah he's here on loan. Great signing for the club.

A little disappointing if it's just a half season loan, will just get going then leave, Hooper style

On the bright side, at least it means he shouldn't jump ship to another A-League team at the end of the season.

Would any new signings be able to play in the FFA cup if we get through the next rough? Or are the registration rules for the cup, the same as the League?

He can't play any official games until the window opens on Jan 14th. So he will have a few weeks training behind him to hit the ground running.

think this is a great short term signing for us. he fills a gap, has experience and some skill that we need to bolster the squad......if he likes it here, who knows we may get an option to extend his loan, or sign him permanently. If he leaves after helping us then so be it.

Yeah man, I'd much rather the media was proven wrong than our club getting a really good player to help us try and win the league...

From what I've seen a lot of Mexicans really rate him and was Liga MX rookie player of the year in the 16/17 season but had injuries and other players ahead of him in his position so didn't really kick on. Similar to Uli and that worked out well for us

Ball, Davila, Hooper, Hemed (eventually), Steinmann

Uffie has nailed the visa recruitment since coming to the club, so I have complete faith that Sandoval will be be good.

Would have liked to see more goals in his youtube clips, none the less, he is going to be hacked to death in the A League. Refs wont protect him but if they do, he could run riot.

I like to look of him. Likes to run at players with ball at feet. Piscopo also has that ability. Gives us good variation in attack and draws defenders out leaving more room for the likes of Hooper.
Only concern is how he will settle never played outside of Mexico

A grasping at straws rumour maybe

Anyone else listen to the Bill Tuiloma interview on SENZ?
General MLS chit chat..
At the end he was asked You left at such a young age, kiwis didnt get a chance to see you play.. Any plans to come back home soon? For Xmas?
Bill got very awkward and said "Um, yea, um well have to see after this.. After the game. And uh figure out what's the plan. But yea, we'll see.

Don't take his words at face value.. as I appreciate it can be interpreted in a few meaningless ways. The key is how he was how caught off guard he was at the easiest question.

https://www.sen.com.au/programs/baz-and-izzy-for-breakfast/

Listened to the SENZ chat with Izzy Dagg, and got more the impression he might be looking to surprise his parents with a trip home, hence the reluctance to give a date on any NZ travel plans?? Plus like many probaly getting his head around new border rules, and when he can avoid 2 weeks MIQ (from 14th Feb it seems).

But had a bit of a dig around re his contract status at the Timbers. He signed a new deal with Portland Dec 2019. Below is from Flying Kiwis at the time. So he may be off contract, or he may not be???  FYI - he's 26 now, and on $US100K ($NZ147K) at the Timbers. He would be a nice pickup for the Nix. Him and Payne together - now that would be a good CB (even if both right footed) pairing.

"Billy T’s signed a new contract. He’d already had his 2020 option picked up by the Timbers but they’ve just gone and trumped that with a multi-year extension that’ll keep him in Portland for the foreseeable future. Not sure what multi-year means specifically because there hasn’t been a number applied to it yet, presumably at least two years on top of next year?

But regardless the 24 year old, who joined Portland back in 2017 and just had his best season yet, has thrived under the consistency offered at the club following an erratic time in France and this is clearly a good move for him."

Bad news. Not sure what is going on. Hopefully nothing serious but without him leading our front line we are looking thin. No real goal scorer in there anymore. Sotirio is very mercurial and Waine has his good patches, but let's be hoejst he doesn't get too many (yet). Ball also more of a provider.

Where is Hooper's family? In the UK or Aussie?

Would be pretty shark for him if they are still in the UK. I'm sure one of the reasons he came back to the Nix from the ISL, was the belief that would be a normal H&A season with Nix based in Welly, and his family living there.

Pretty sure when he signed (pre Delta) things were looking good, and Nix had not long hosted 2 games with big crowds in NZ. Compared to apparently living in Covid bubbles playing in the India, that would have looked attractive, even if he took a pay cut to return to the A League. Plus he obviously enjoyed hanging out with his English mates Taylor & Ball.

Hopefully there are some positive developments pre Christmas, re bringing that 30th April 2022 date forward, for Trans Tasman sports comps.

By the way, what are the rules on transfers from state leagues to the A-League? Do they still have to observe transfer windows, etc?

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Technically the NPL is Amateur I think, so you can sign guys outside the window.

Good stuff.
Now we need a quality import CB. Look at the impact Lacroix is having at WU.
Side note. Really hope there are no changes to NSW border policy. Could make bringing anyone else in difficult, and would delay the return of Hopper.

NSW Premier is pretty bullish on keeping his state open. So unless deaths, and ICU admissions skyrocket with Omicron, don't expect any border changes.

Trying for another loan deal, on a match fit visa CB out there makes sense. But unless they can find someone who is match fit ready to go, don't see Welnix throwing cash at anymore visa signings with season soon 38% over, them bleeding cash in Aussie, and Nix likely struggling to make the top 6. Might as well go for a longer term focus, blood some of the Weenix kids like Surman, and give Talay what he wants for season 2022/23.

Our need for a quality CM is probably as dire as the need for a CB...

Two key areas we need to fill, a new starting CB and CM one either one to be the leader of the pack. Our spine is weak at the moment and it is showing.

Can't see Laws being any different to Rufer at CM. We need a CM with Devlin like qualities i reckon

Gael Sandoval - I see that he has a CONCACAF Champions League winner's medal with Chivas Guadalajara in 2018 and was a member of their squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in UAE  in 2018:
CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2018:
He came on as a sub in the semi-final first leg  vs. New York Red Bulls:

An unused sub for both legs of the final win vs.Toronto FC:

FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP, UAE 2018:
Consequently, Sandoval was part of Chivas' squad for the FIFA Club World Cup:

Sandoval came on as a sub on 71 min. vs. AFC champions Kashima Antlers in the 3-2 loss which eliminated Chivas from the tournament:
