People appealing to the environment court does cost them a bit of money. You don't just do it for giggles. That combined with the fact that their property values will increase quite a bit leads me to be optimistic about it.
Since when does having a stadium built in your neighbour hood increase property values?
There would be a significant burst of commerce throughout the entire suburb. It has been the subject of case studies overseas. Here is a detailed one

That's just what I was thinking! Not exactly a massive selling point, I wouldn't have thought.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I was surprised at the number of positive comments, tbh. Still some comedy gold in there though!

I like Petone. Jackson St. is quite nice already, and the new stadium can only invite new and further investment. Win-Win for everybody. The Hutt already provides plenty of Nix fans, and this same location is bound to supply more.
Apparently if the Club don't pick you up in a stretch limo and Welnix members carry you in a sedan chair to your pre-reserved seat it's too much for some Welly types. However do they manage to stand up for a whole ninety minutes? Poor lambs.
Anyone who thinks Petone is hard to get to is basically a spoilt little shit who has no idea about inaccessible. Why, back in my day.... walk through snow and plagues of frogs....couldn't afford shoes so borrowed my Nan's..... (etc etc blah, blah)
Where did you grow up, Nuuk? I'm not going to disagree with you fully, but to label people spoilt little shits is retarded. It is physically harder to get to via public transport, so don't be a dick. Kids from Kapiti are going to find it harder and more expensive to get to. Some families only travel to games via a direct train line. I don't have a problem with tearing the Hayward's a new asshole once a fortnight, but there will be some people who genuinely cannot make the trip, albeit too far or too expensive.
You have such a way with words AJ.
I sympathise with "kids from Kapiti" but can't honestly imagine they total more than about 15 people in a Phoenix crowd. Don't think we should make or break any decisions because of them.
Obviously you don't need to travel very far to have a view like that.
Maybe phoenix HQ could do a deal to get them to games . like setting up a game day travel pack with kiwi rail or bus companys . or set up a forum for people to find other people to travel together to games

I think my favourite is this one:

dumb idea - dont they see the traffic jams in Jackson St on just an ordinary lunchtime?? can you imagine it when 30 odd k people are trying to go to the same place?! thru a one lane each way street such as Jackson St. Plain stupid! unless theyre planning a flyover hahaha
Wait so 30,000 people are going to all turn up to a 12,000 seat stadium...sweet

The irony is that the demand for tickets in the first season would likely be higher than the new stadium's capacity... purely down to the drawcard of a new facility
How good would that be!
You to a mate: "hey are you going to the Nix this weekend?"
Mate: "nah it's sold out!"
You (smugly): "oooh yeah, should get a season pass next season..."
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Hilarious. Anyone taking Jackson St to get the Petone Rec would be an idiot (unless they want to stop at the pub on the way).
Hutt Road or Dowse interchange ftw.

I dream of this
And I do think that scenario is entirely feasible should this thing get built.
For the record I live in Kapiti and I'm all for this proposal, although that might have something to do with my prior abode and workplace being in Petone ;)
To quote JD (and I might actually have to change my avatar given how much I've been agreeing with his posts lately), this is a gamechanger

What they could easily do is some Phoenix train replacement buses, that go down the kapiti train line picking people up at all the stops, then turns left at the bottom of the gorge instead of right. Would that honestly be less convenient for people than taking the train to the stadium?

Just having a look at the artists impressions and it seems that western end will incorporate the current Petone Rec stand (and Sony advertising boards)

As you're coming down the gorge, stop in at Jville and pick up people there, covering another area to.

Considering it is a 15 foot walk across the platforms it's hardly a massive inconvenience is it?
A bus would be much slower than rail even if it turned left at Ngauranga.

Not if they do stadium connection still I guess . .At the moment it is 12 bucks . so pretty good .i'd say it might get an add on of around 5-8 bucks going to petone

Wouldn't have thought so, unless there was traffic. Especially if the train has to go into town and come back.
I've done the Tawa to Wgtn then back out to the Hutt before and it is a bit of a pain. Especially because you always miss the connecting train by two minutes and then have to sit at the station for another 30.
I would have thought a bus would be quite a bit faster. Less distance, fewer stops, no downtime waiting for the connecting train and it can take you all the way to the stadium. Only reason a train would be quicker is if traffic is really that bad coming in.

With including stops at all the train stations from Waikanae to Takapuna Road, driving (No time for passenger pick-ups) google gives 1hr 7mins to Petone Rec.
The two trains combined appear to be about 30mins longer (Including the walk to Petone Rec 20mins), only 10mins longer without the walk.

But a bus is going to have to stop at all of those as well. Remeber we're not comparing with a car here.
A little co-ordination so the additional Hutt trains run straight after Jville and Coast arrivals wouldn't be too hard.
It would need Tranzmetro to buy into a stadium ticket that covered all legs of the journey.
Also. The walk down Jackson street is a million times better than the concourse. Particularly in a northerly.

A fly in the proverbial transport ointment. .... Regional Council effectively owns Westpac Stadium and is responsible for public transport. May not be to happy giving Super Deals on Public transport to a competing stadium

Its about 15-20mins less from Napier via the Rimutaka Hill Road so i'm all for it!!!
Not sure Gooner4Life will be please though

So what colour or colours should the seats be?
Bright yellow looks terrible when half empty as we all know

With you on this one. Adding stop time to the Buses and it's probably no longer faster (Was just trying to show the basic numbers)
Agree a discussion with Tranzmetro about a Stadium Pass, and coordinating trains would be ideal.

I don't think the location is suitable enough. We are getting piss poor crowds in a stadium that is very accessible to be fair to Westpac.
For people on Kapiti Line and south of CBD, it aint gonna be a great alternative.
I really believe this is the Phoenix firing across the bows of Westpac Stadium. No doubt the Stadium Management will think that too cos there is sod all chance they will do ought.
Who represents the Council on Westpac Stadium Management - this is their asset and they should bloody well do everything in their power to ensure that Wellington teams play there.

I have a few questions. When Westpac first openned and there was a 2 year waiting list for season tickets, other than lining their pockets, and looking after corporate sponsors, just how much did the stadium trust reinvest in it. They've saved heaps on employing a shit catering company that charges the earth. I'd love to know where this profit was invested.
Here is an opportunity for some competition. A stadium much better suited for a fan base of any code. Sure the finals type games could be moved to Westpac. I think the Westpac Stadium Trust need to heed this very serious warning and sort their shit out. The average punter has had enough of being ripped off.
I hope this happens. Of course it might just be a few trying to scare Westpac. They need to start charging less to the average punter and less to the various organisations that wish to use it.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

If you're going to spend all that money on a football-specific stadium, which is a great idea, why not put it where Newtown Park is? Wouldn't that be a more convenient central location.

In no respect is Newtown Park "central" to anything.

To put things in perspective for someone who doesn't know Petone, I live in a suburb just outside the CBD of Auckland. It would take me 25 mins to drive to Siberia (north Harbour stadium). How long would it take from Wellington to Petone?
But Albany is the dead-zone. This Petone place may have redeeming features...
